My job as a research tech is slowly winding down. I sit at my computer station trying to find something, anything to make my down time go faster. I can't think of anything else to look up on google. I can only take so much of playing chess online. What else should I do? It feels like classes are so far away. I wish I could speed up this inbetween time and get things going.

😆 I feel you, bro. What I do to pass the time is offer advice to folks here in a longwinded, but hopefully helpful, manner.

I am bored with my research too! PM me if I am online to play some chess. My co-worker I normally play with is studying for his MCAT:laugh:

Well maybe you could help me out. I remember seeing a thread that had a link for a DO version of the MSAR with each schools break down of MCAT/GPA. Do you remember seeing that around?

The AACOMAS stats book thing? I linked that in the "dubious chances" thread just a few posts ago. Not sure if that is what you want, but it does have that info I believe.

Are you talking about the Annual Report? (http://www.aacom.org/data/annualreport/index.html) That just has the total info for all schools. I remember seeing a break down for each school. Maybe I didn't see it?

im bloody serious. 4 years of medschool and 3 to 5 for residency. you should be able to get ahead with a nice sum if you stash some moolah aside now

I have exactly 28 work days left before my venture into the unknown (new state, new climate, new people, new insane workload). I feel everyone's pain. Trying to enjoy my relaxed life at the moment. Take this time to breathe in, breathe out! And work on your favorite crossword puzzle.
 
How did you guys tell your boss that you are leaving. I seem to be having a hard time doing this?

Do you work in a research lab? I did an internship while in undergrad with my current PI. When he offered me the job he knew that I was applying to medical school and planned on starting this year. So he was really cool about it and when I went on my interviews I didn't even have to use my vacation time. So I guess I am fortunate in that sense. Just tell your boss that you are going back to school this fall. Unless you plan on working there during your summers you will be fine.

Thanks for your advice. I work in research but at a company, not academic. When I interviewed I told them I'd be going back in about 5 years (they asked)
I dont like my job and be happy to quit but its just feeling of being disloyal that is bothering me. or maybe I am just whining too much. Its funny how after getting everything you want you end up wishing for more.

I wish there were an easier way to do this!
 
Another long day at work. 🙁 Got dept. photo and then going out to eat with my lab at China buffet and then going out to a beer garden to chill. I wish everyday was like this.

I think I've said it before, but it's worth repeating..

Do you think they'd feel bad about firing you/laying you off?

I went to my boss and said I would be leaving in a few months..>i struggled with when to do it, but leaving here will be one of the happier days of my life...

Harvey...I feel you brother...I'm going nuts training my replacement...knowing how much other stuff I'd rather be doing.
 
Man...I'm so over my research and work right now. I'm seriously sick of the internet! I JUST WANT TO START! Although I bet once we do...we are going to be wishing we had the time to fart around of my internet during an incubation...like I am currently! : )

Yeah I have another hour wait. After I check the internet, I think I will make some dry ice bombs. If you don't know how to make them, PM. They are well worth it. 😀
