Okay, this is now becoming truly ridiculous. I was interviewed at Albert Einstein School of Medicine (my first choice) on NOV 6, it is now late February. What is going on? The only thing I can think of is that before I was interviewed I was asked to get a letter of good standing from my Pre-Medical Committee (since I decided to use individual letters instead of the Committee letter) and they had to wait for it before making a final decision. What do you guys think? Does it look bleak or might there be light at the end of the tunnel. This is very frustrating since I was rejected last year after being interviewed and they do not accept 3rd time applicants. This is really depressing.

Have you called them and asked what going on?

If you haven't already, go ahead and call them. You're supposed to hear within 8 weeks of your interview.

well if it makes you feel better i never got into my "1st choice" but after applying a couple of years i interviewed at my current school and after the interview it became my new "1st choice" by far. i even took my name off of the alternate list at my old "1st choice" and i couldn't be happier about my choices and the path my life took. if you believe, believe, believe, then try, try, try, and work hard, work hard, work hard, it all will work itself out. that's what medicine is really about. good luck!

I interviewed on 10/15 and received my acceptance on 1/16. I would call your school's committee and ask if they sent a letter and if they did, call AE to ask if they received it and see if your file went for review. I know my school took at least a month to compile my committee letter, so try to find out the source of the problem 🙂 Good luck.

I second Dr. Kermit. She is the smartest muppet I know..

I don't think your situation looks bleak. The whole committee letter thing makes sense. I would definitely give them a call. AECOM has a large movement off the waitlist, so if you do get waitlisted don't fret. 🙂

Fernj:

Why did you decide not to use premedical committee letter? I am also thinking of not going through the committee. Just worried that they might look down on that.

Some schools require that you use a committee letter if your school as a premed committee. I'm not sure how stern they are on this request, but I wouldn't take my chances.

Definitly give them a call, u have nothing to lose. Fernj75 are u male or female? im from queens as well. I'll be starting at downstate this year. There is still hope so =) keep ur head up!

BTW fern, AE is interviewing into early June. There was a response from Noreen Kerrigan on Interview Feedback that said ~180 acceptances were mailed on 1/15. As my smarty pants souljah said, AE has 7000+ applicants, offers ~1000 interviews, and accepts around 400-500 students. There is a good waitlist movement in early July since many students tend to choose between all the NYC schools.

Good luck with your letter and I hope you hear good news 🙂

dr. kermit,
AE may well become one of my top choices, although I'll probably applying md-phd there... what type of stats do you think one needs to be competitive? what were your stats?
The premed committee here told me that they love cornell kids.... I hope this hold true when I apply! thanks

Well I called today and the admissions personnel told me that my status as of today was that I?m still being reviewed by the committee. She also said that I should hear before June on their decision (like that is any relief!!!), so I?m basically back to square one. I though interviewing pretty early would be to my benefit, it has obviously not bare fruit. As far as the reason for not using the committee letter was due to the fact that I transferred into the school after my Sophomore year so I did not think I was going to get a great letter from them. What do you guys think, is it an ominous sign?
