So, I decided to take an extended term lower level science (med terminology) class that runs for a year; it's a "finish at your pace" kind of class. It's primarily online based, but the final exam is a proctored exam.

I was hoping to blow through the class pretty quickly since I have a pretty solid science background, get my A+ and squeeze it onto my AADSAS application before applying. I wanted to turbo charge my GPA just a hair (about .02).

I'm pulling a 96% in the class and I'm almost done; only thing left is the final. The problem is, if I get anything less than a 95% on the final, my chance of getting an A+ (or a straight A) is slim!

The class is so easy, yet it seems like I'm getting knocked off on points for the most ridiculous reasons! I've fought the instructor on the points he docked off, and I was only successful in recovering ~40% of the points. I'm debating whether or not to take the final before June 03 😡

Instead of turbo boosting my GPA, this class could lead to a blown head gasket. :bang:

Moral of the story, watch out for "easy classes," you may be in for a surprise.

Haha, well I hope that doesn't apply to anything else but this class.

Although it is a lower lever class it is quite helpful.

I would recommend for every science-interested-mind to take Medical Terminology in their freshman or sophomore years 😉

Take the final. Unfortunately my school offers that class for pharmacy & PA students and not pre-med/dental students. They have quite a handful of classes that are only for them and it sucks for us.

I hear you mate!

anycase, I'll say take the final and see what happens. Just don't stress yourself over this anymore.

as a friendly advice, you should focus on 2 important things:

1- Make sure your have a solid PS
2- Work on your interview skills and make sure you are prepared. Those adcoms folks are wicked (in a good way 🙂

good luck...

Thanks for the advice and encouragement 🙂

The interview part is looming in the back of my head... I'm going to start practicing my interviewing skills with my family, friends, and faculty at school.

Needless to say, the interview is my biggest fear right now!

Same here! I know for sure I will eat the interviews and get rejected for some schools at least.

My accent drags me down quite a bit in person-to-person communications, lol.

And it gets REALLY BAD when I get nervous.

How do you plan on practicing it?

I'll just set up a bunch of mock interviews... My school also has an "interview service" that's supposed to help prepare a person.

Oh, I can only hope to at least land an interview :luck::xf::scared:

Well, I did some further investigation and did some consulting about finishing the class.

I found out that even if I do finish the class, my final grades won't be included on the official transcript. This is because it takes the instructor/administration 2+ weeks to update my application with grades.

I don't want to delay my app. for a .02 GPA boost.

Well, I suppose if the adcoms see the course as a "class in progress" it should be neither positive nor negative, but rather neutral on my application.

At least I hope it's a neutral affect...

great advice! just look at the ADEA guide numbers from previous years, so many students get interview invites and only a few get in.

guys work on your interview skills !!

If you're concerned that an A- would not make a good impact on your GPA, then you obviously didn't need the class, so why the yewt did you take it?

An A- would bring my grade up by about .008

Besides, I think anything less than an A at my academic level, considering it's a 1xxx level class would look pretty shabby.

At any rate, it's impossible to get the final grade processed before AADSAS opens anyway 🙄

You do know that you're supposed to report all classes that you've taken or plan to take right?

Just because it takes a couple weeks to post final grades doesn't mean you can omit it from your application...

It will need to go under planned coursework or taken coursework.

Absolutely, I plan to report the class on my application and I expect the course to be on my official transcripts. Only thing that I'm not expecting to be on my application or official transcripts is the grade I received in the course.

It does serve as a helpful reminder though, thanks 🙂
