Well, I really like calculus, but my teachers tests and quizzes are really hard. I go to a community college and this is the only class that's hard for me. I used to be good at math during highschool, but then i jumped right into calc 1 freshmen year. I'm getting a C- if not D+. I don't need this class for my major, but I thought some schools require Calculus so I took it. It turns out what I needed was trig only. So now I have to wake up at 7 every morning to go to this 1 hour and 25 minute class, only to expect bad grades 🙁. I really don't know what to do. How bad will this hurt my GPA?

Hmmm...

From what I know, calculus is needed. Are you sure it's not necessary? Sometimes, in order for you to transfer from a community college to a 4-year university, I think you may need calculus.

At my 4-year, I know for sure that...Biology majors, psychology majors, econ majors, communications majors, engineering majors, etc need calculus.

I recommend researching which courses you need to take to transfer and then research which major you're planning on getting at a 4-year college, as well as the graduation requirements for that major. Just go to the website of a 4-year college, and you'll see if you need it or not.

EDIT: Math is just a lot of practice. It's not something you can cram. Make sure you get help if you're having trouble, and keep practicing!!

Calculus may be a prerequisite for courses, such as Physics (which you need for dental school)... I just went back on my school's Schedule of Classes, and this was the case.

Maybe the 4-year university you want to go to is different, but I would definitely check!

ask your teacher or counselor where you can get tutoring, its offered usually for calc classes since students have trouble with it. I believe you can do it! Just get past a couple of formulas, and you realize its all derivatives and integrals, what else is there to it! You can do it! Just put in the time, i promise you you can do it! Ask someone in your class how to do a problem after class ends. What do you have to lose. They will say yes, i promise, if not they say no, and you are where you would have been. What did you lose now? Just ask for help! I promise you its there! Ask your teacher for extra problems, just do something about it besides thinking you cant.

I'm a Bio major and don't need Calculus.

I take the non-Calculus based Physics for my degree.

Only the engineering majors/chem. majors have to take calc. based physics

I know some dental schools require Calc, but I don't plan on applying to those schools unfortunately.

Technically calculus is not required for bio majors, but definitely something nice to have for background/useful knowledge for critical thinking....

I hear ya, I'm a mathematician when it comes to algebra and geometry but a total chump when it comes to anything harder than that. How about dropping out of the class?

I'm a bio major and I had to take both single and multivariable calculus hahaha!

There are only a handful of schools that require calc. I wouldnt take it unless you plan to apply to those schools. It goes towards your sGPA and will lower it if you dont do well. There is no advantage/disadvantage in taking the class unless its absolutely necessary for your undergrad or d-school of choice.

Thanks for everything. I dropped it, I don't need it for my major and there was no point in having to lower my sGPA...
