you should search on SDN for interview tips! 😀

Congrats on your interviews.

I recommend two things: 1. go over the school's website very carefully, learn about their curriculum, their mission, their programs, what makes them unique, etc. Be able to answer the question "Why this school" as well as having several questions about the school prepared.

2. Use this website http://www.studentdoctor.net/schools/ for interview feedback to learn about the types of questions asked, how difficult the interview is, etc.

good luck.

Thanks for the help!

It's pretty basic, buy suit, plain/train tickets, reserve place to stay during interviews.

Even going over schools sites becomes redundant, since they give you an hour long presentation at most schools. Just basically know why you applied there, and pick up on their best attributes during the presentations.

Otherwise, you prepared when you were involved in activities, etc since they will just be asking you about you.

Until you get accepted the story is not very cool. Most applicants get at least one interview, but not that many get accepted.

Yeah man don't be excited, being excited is for losers who never get in!

Just kidding. Congrats man, I got my first one this week too and despite what these fools are saying I agree it feels awesome. I'm sure it's nowhere near how I will feel if I get accepted but I'll enjoy the steps along the way. SDN is full of punks like those in this thread who think they are bad a and nobody else is cool or deserves to get in.

One tip someone who interviewed last year told me was to book with an airline like southwest where you are not penalized for changing flights. The reason being if another interview offer comes later and is doable in the same city or area but requires you to change your flight by a day you don't have to pay the $150 to $200 other airlines tell you to.

The most important preparation is being able to interview well. If you think you might have problems with this, do mock interviews. Learning about the school, figuring out "why school X?," etc can all be done a few days beforehand/at the presentations given just before your actual interview.

Re-read your AMCAS and secondary applications before going to the interview. You may be asked questions about any part of your application and "Uhhh... oh yeah!" is never an acceptable way to start a sentence.

Confidence is your friend here, so prepare to answer questions that will come up at every school ("Why medicine", "why this school", etc.). I'm not suggesting you memorize a speech, but spend some time practicing answering questions like this out loud by yourself or with a friend. If your college offers mock interviews, use this resource as much as possible.

Good luck!

cool story bro

This. I haven't done any med-school interviews yet, but I have done a lot of job interviews. Let me tell you, practicing for interviews with someone is probably the best thing you could do. You may have an idea of what you would say if a certain question comes up, but it is a lot different when you actually have to articulate it. Practice with someone!

Put polish on your shoes and then spit shine them. Shiny shoes build self confidence. Self confidence leads to a successful interview. Basically, it is about your shoes, as women know. Women are all about the shoes.

This is actually very true. At least the part about women being all about the shoes. Not all women necessarily, but a good portion. Yeah. Shiny shoes. 👍

Doesn't seem necessary.

Coles just a little upset... Don't mind him. He deserves an interview by now and is still waiting... Why don't you have an interview yet by the way? Kind of odd to me with your stats and all...

Pretty much the best idea is to go through the interview feedback on this site. All schools ask very similar questions and look for similar answers. Some even just ask questions off a list, so you know what they're going to ask if you get the feedback.

Well make sure the presentations occur before interviews take place before deciding not to research the school. With that said, I found during my research that nearly every medical school is exactly the same. Some focus on research more than others, but when you look at where people matched and what school they went to, you'll see Albany students right next to Harvard students. There's not as much as a pattern as you'd expect.

im reallllyyyyy confused. since when do people get interview invites this early? I've never heard of that happening.

Also some schools give automatic interview invites when they receive primaries. University of Michigan gives them out to many people with 3.8/38 stats, though supposedly only if they're from top undergrads.

Some schools without automatic interviews are also inviting now like University of Chicago and Ohio State.

I just applied very early this cycle and the schools I applied to respond very quickly to each application, so I have one in October and one on September 29th.

I think it depends on a few things: how many applicants are applying, are the schools reviewing everyone on a rolling basis, was your application ahead of the "power curve" of applicants etc...

I didn't apply to an EDP and am just a regular applicant.

As a new user, people like Cole the Troll really turn me off of these forums.

Clearly, this individual's happy about receiving an interview, not rubbing your face in it. You clicked on the thread to leave your obnoxious message.

Let's try to be encouraging to others, despite how good our individual applications supposedly are.

Congratulations on the interviews btw, would you mind saying what schools so we know who, besides U of C, is giving out interviews?

Thanks, and good luck!!

I am glad someone said..... he seriously needs to get over himself.. I wouldn't want someone that negative or self righteous for my doctor...

Absolutely: University of South Carolina and MUSC

I'm an in-state applicant to both schools.

He's really not a bad person... I have read several of his posts, and he really likes to help people out when they ask questions... He’s just got a funny sense of humor. Maybe sarcasm just doesn’t come across on here... Plus, it’s got to be frustrating when you have stats that great and no one has contacted you yet for an interview. Though, high stats can hurt you more than help you sometimes. Perfect example.

My University had a way you could set up mock interviews through I believe the career services center. They said they had done med-school mocks before, and had become somewhat accustomed to doing so.

I would advise anyone to look into this.

And agreed. He has the occasional good post but lots of times comes off egotistical.

Haha, you have no idea what kind of person I am in real life. My SDN persona and my real life persona are two different things.

SDN is a lovely medium for me to be a smartass and have some fun with no consequences. I guess I'm egotistical because I point out the silliness of people's questions? If everyone simply lurked for a couple of hours, half these threads (including this one) wouldn't be necessary. 90% of these questions have been asked before or can be answered with common sense. I mean, really: what do you think you do to prepare for an interview invite? Is this not common sense? Obviously I'm happy for the OP - that's awesome that he got interview invites already lined up. But do we really need to have a thread asking what to do to prepare for interviews?

Everyone on this board is so uptight - myself included at times - and I would like to think that if I'm able to make someone chuckle by being "egotistical," I've done a good deed. Now obviously my post in this thread was sub-par at best, but the point remains.

If you were to read my post in the 30+ MCAT thread or my blog posts on MDApps, it would be pretty clear to you that "egotistical" is one thing that you can't pin on me. Not sure why you've got so much disdain for me these past couple of threads.

Noshie: I'm not upset in the slightest. I haven't been moving forward in the process because I'm waiting on my committee packet to get sent. So even though I've sent secondaries to a ton of schools, I'm still not complete. That's why things aren't moving along.

But I digress. Didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I'm going to invent a font for sarcasm and get rich and sit around all day while you silly pre-meds work yourselves stupid 😎😎😎😎😎😎

Cole the Troll, I think you've answered like 95% of my stupid question threads accurately and informatively so thanks for that, I got your back.

Edit: OP, congrats on the interviews!

Funny I dont like him either. I have seen many other threads too. And hell write something like "this thread is point less" and crap like that discouraging people. The guy has absolutely nothing useful to say.

Everyone needs to stop getting their panties in a bunch. It's a message board and people can say and do whatever they want. They have the freedom of speech. This place can be all loving and caring, it can be helpful and guiding, it can be funny and sarcastic.

If you don't like what someone says, or their response to what other people are saying who really gives a ****? So what if someone wrote "cool story bro." Does it affect you that much? If you can't handle what someone says on the internet I don't want to know what happens to you in life.

If you can't handle someones sarcastic or joking remarks and can't ignore them you don't belong in medical school.

This is pretty hypocritical.

This comment is pointless

This is pretty hypocritical.

How exactly is it hypocritical? The fact that I insinuate that it bothers me that other people make comments about how trivial things bother them?

The whole reason I wrote that was show that you only succumb to one's level when you post about how mean or trivial someone else's comment is. The high road is to ignore it, to act like you never read it and move on. People are allowed to try to be mean, funny, helpful, etc. It's their choice, their freewill.

[note: likewise, it can be argued that everyone has the freewill and choice to respond, thus beginning a viscous cycle of doom and eternal SDN damnation]

I got some! now how should I prepare?
Congrats, its still very early in the process!
Take it easy, start preparing updates to send (Maybe one in November, January, and March?).
If they're interviewing you, they like you.

Make sure you know how to answer the question: Why do you want to be a doctor?
