What Doors Open Up With Going To A More Widely Recognized Dental School? Obviously, If You Graduate From Any Dental School You Will Be A Dentist. What Edge Do Graduates Of Classically Top-Ranked Programs Such As Ucsf And Ivy League Schools Have Over Their Alternatively-Educated Colleagues Aside From Greater Name Recognition By Their Patients?

Regards

Some say that attending a more "well-known" dental school may help for obtaining a residency spot, but that may be the case because those schools attract top students as well. However, in terms of running a practice and being a successful dentist, your own business sense and clinical skills are what make or break you, not where you went to school.

WE KNOW that everyone who graduates dental school is a dentist, but that is not to say the general public agrees.

My girlfriend looked up dental programs by herself and give me a list she wanted me to apply to, and they were all D.M.D. programs because she wanted me to be an MD.

Also, be careful if you are looking to practice in wealthy areas such as LA, NY, etc. Many people are very conscious of status, and although one could argue that a DDS from Stony Brook and a DMD from Harvard are pretty much equal in caliber, The Harvard grad is most likely going to have easier time acquiring clients (without considering business savvy, people skills, etc.)

It is kind of frustrating how dumb the American public can be 🙂

I was on a Dental School tour last year and I asked a dental student "How can you increase your chances of getting into a specialty program once you're in dental school?"

and he said "Since for most specialty programs you have to be in the top 1-10% in your dental class, going to a less competitive dental school (stat wise) will make it easier for you to beat the competition"

There is more than one reason to be afraid of your girlfriend...

Time to break up with this gf or your life will be HELL...

To the OP- It doesn't matter which dental school you attend. 99.9% of your future patients will not ask which dental school you attended before they make an appointment with you. Good skills + great personality = successful dentist

hahaha she obviously realized that DMD and DDS are exactly the same when i explained it to her. she just thought since they were different labels, one was better.

and then she made me take her shopping...

It can be an issue when trying to obtain that first job as an Associate fresh out of dental school, especially if it's in another state.

Why is every word capitalized. I couldn't even make myself read that.
