I'm transferring to ASU next semester and have been looking non-stop for something science/medically related. I've got experience, etc, but the long-distance job search isn't helping.

Anyone from around there that would have any hookups?

P.S. Yes, I have checked ASU'S job board and have been emailing profs.

this is what i did in between undergrad and med school. i had my EMT-B cert and had worked for a summer as a Med Assistant. you can also look at the other hospitals in the area for something similar: Scottsdale Osborn & Shea, St. Joe's, Maricopa, Good Sam, St. Luke's, Chandler Regional, John C. Lincoln, etc. It might take some persistence, but it's well worth it.

I did undergrad research at ASU through the BREU program. I think its been recently renamed but if you inquire in the undergrad bio office or do a search on the web site it should pop up. It doesn't pay much (8/hr) but its better than nothing and I got an awesome letter from my PI.

I also work as an ED tech at Banner Desert. It's okay but Phoenix has a surplus of emts. Banner's always hired for lab assistant jobs though.

you could do an IRTA with the NIH in phoenix. there is an nih campus on the grounds of the pima indian medical center that does diabetes/obesity research. you can see if there are any lab assistant jobs here, or just try and get an irta. im doing this now! woo! oh wait, phoenix sucks...

Sweet, thanks for the replies. IRTA seems to be a post-bacc program, and I've been scouring Banner. The BREU program is called SOLUR now at ASU, and I'm looking into it.

irta isnt a post bac program, well not like post bac programs most people do( aka my science gpa sucks, i didnt take ochem) . its jsut a year of paid research. its been going over huge in my interviews as well, faculty interviewers seem to think its kickass

Well, it does look sweet, but it's a graduate program. I'm still an undergrad.
