Title says it all. Anyone else snipped who can tell me what to expect?

No kids. Never wanted any. Wife has used Nuvaring for a decade now. What changed? She has developed a painful photosensitive rash that lingers for days if she's out in the sun for long enough, and a baseball game is "long enough".

Honestly, it's a pretty intense rash. We live in Florida, so action needs to be taken.

Speaking from personal experience, do not let your 2 and 1/2-year-old toddler head butt you in the crotch on post-op day 3. That significantly slows healing.

You make sure that everyone knows how bad it is, and you need at least 1 week of relaxing on the couch watching sports and movies. No chores, no heavy lifting. Usually you need at least 100 ejaculations afterwards to "clean the pipes" before your follow-up sperm count, possibly you'll need help, you know, as you're recovering.

In all seriousness, plan it when you don't have to do anything, and most will plan it around march madness, or the masters, etc.

When my dad had a vasectomy years ago, the nurse told him they’d need his 100 ejaculate or whatever and handed him a cup. He looked at her and said “what time do you guys close, I’ll be back this afternoon.”

Think waaay back to your pharm lectures, and you might remember that they loved to talk about Bactrim doing this, too.
She takes 3 other meds. 2 of them were discontinued for long enough.
The remaining med isn't known to result in photodermatitis.
Process of elimination.

Photoisomerization of the med by some specific wavelength of the spectrum results in a localized erythema.
Here was the real clue, ready for this ?

She stayed out of the sun. Rash resolved. Went back in the sun. Blotchy rash on sun-exposed regions.
She stayed out of the sun. Rash resolved.
She bought one of the new advanced FitBit devices that uses pulse-ox technology to record data.

Rash, perfectly conforming to the contour of the fitbit's light sensor.

As others have mentioned, it's not an instantaneous method so you'll need to use condoms or have her continue until you're semen is negative for sperm. Actual procedure was fine once they actually anesthesized the area (2nd try), drove myself home. Very minimal discomfort post-op. Only unexpected thing was that it hurt to orgasm for some months afterwards (not intense pain but a dull ache for 30s or so).

Haha, this reminds me of my colleague who got a call from his wife while he was at work not long post-vasectomy. Surprise... baby #5 was on the way. Why she chose to tell him by phone, I have no idea. Maybe because she didn't have to see his face...

OT, but Doxy is the one I see this with a lot. It seems to happen on the dorsal hands when I've seen it. Remember, we're in Lyme season, so don't forget to tell your pts about it when you dole out the 12 or 15 day course.

Got mine about 3 years ago. After numbing you don’t feel much except for one time on each side the doc warned me I’d feel a little tug. Got that nauseated sensation like after you get kicked in the balls. After that, sore for a few days and walking a little slower, tried to avoid kids head butting my crotch except a time or 2 I’d be sitting in the chair with a pillow covering me and one would come up and jump in my lap. Wife and I have 4 kids (4th was the surprise one that led to me getting a vasectomy though we had talked about it after #3). Glad I got it done now.

Yep 10 to 14. I go with higher (2 weeks), probably because my brother has chronic Lyme (oddly misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia for a few years), and I get antsy about Lyme in general. I'm currently in PA and have treated a few cases already this season.

Every year is like groundhog day at this time. 'Oh, this is an atypical presentation. I wonder if it's Lyme maybe? Oh yah, it's that time of year, let's test' *+ western a day later*.

Currently pophy is just 200mg once. I do it, but I get antsy about it (meaning I kind of feel like giving a bit more, but I don't).

It wasn't that bad at all. I probably could've gone back to work the next day, but took 3 days off and that was plenty. Drove myself, didn't need anything more than tylenol and motrin. All I felt was a tiny poke from the anesthetic. I will say that the scrotal support helped the most out of anything. At worst, it felt like someone had a firm but gentle grip on my nuts, getting sack tapped hurts way more.

I used to live where I’d see it every few weeks. Since I moved 15 years ago not a single case (maybe 1 from a traveller).

I love the board questions about when not to give prophylaxis based on how long the tick has been attached. Seriously? - we literally give it for acne for months at a time and you are going to risk they don’t come back and get Lyme?

Got mine after we went from 2 kids to 4 kids with the third pregnancy.

Was not bad at all. Drove myself so avoided the benzos and the nitrous. As others have said, the procedure does have that moment that produces the kick in the balls nausea once on each side (my uro said the right is always more pronounced and he didn't lie). After care was no big deal. Achy pain for 3 days, never higher than a 3 out of 10. Had about 2 weeks where could get a short lived jolt of pain if I moved wrong but was otherwise fine and back to nearly normal activity the day after the procedure.

Definitely had those semen checks.

Ha, not quite. She's actually the easy, affectionate one (she was trying to hug me and I didn't twist in time to have her hit my leg like I usually did when she was smaller).

The reason was we spent a weekend with a cousin's newborn daughter that my wife was loving on like crazy. Called the urologist that Monday morning.
