Hi Guys,

I have question about calculating the science GPA. For example

Someone got D in calculus I ( 4 credits ) and F in calculus II ( 4 credits ). The guy retook the them and go B+ in calculus I and an A in calculus II.

Can someone tell me what the science GPA after retaking these classes ?

Google GPA calculator and type them in there. GPA is based on the number of points per letter grade (4 = A, 3 = B) and then weighted by the number of credit hours.

AMCAS doesn't replace grades, so you will take all of those grades into account.

DO schools use grade replacement, so you would only take the retake grades.

Based on those two courses alone, the calculation would be as follows:

(1.00 for the D * 4 Credit Hours) + 0 (F) = 4 Grade Points

4/8 (total credit hours) = 0.5 sGPA

With the retakes, for DO there is grade replacement, so your GPA would be:

(4*4) + (3.7*4) = 30.8

30.8/8 = 3.85

Without grade replacement,

30.8+4 = 34.8

34.8/16 = 2.175

I don't mean to be rude, but I think this is the 2nd GPA calculation thread I've seen in the past 2 weeks. How is it possible to go through 4 years of college and not learn how to calculate GPA? Even if your school's grading system is different, AMCAS clearly spells it out in their guide.
