hi every one.
I have a question regarding to my tough situation.I have a master of degree in art back from my country.I want to pursue my education in dentistry and now I'm taking pre-dental requirements in cc.After that I have a plan to take DAT. But I heard from many students that most universities prefer to have BS or master from here and my MA wouldn't be considered as much.Is that true? They recommend me to get a second degree before applying🙁(
I am really upset because I really don't want to get second degree. It takes too long.Is there any suggestion? What about post-back program?

Nothing is impossible, but you will have a hard time pursuing dentistry with those stats.

First, no only is your degree from another country but it is an art degree. Second you don't have any of the prereqs. Taking them at a cc will not help you much. At least, you should take them at an university as a non-matriculated student if you don't want to get a second degree.

Good luck to you.

Your question can be answered very well from the dental admission of the school you are willing to go. Each applicant is different. Based on my knowledge, they want pre-dental courses taken from 4 year universities. Completing these courses in CC would not make you competitive or qualify. Of course, your MA would not be considered much. It is a totally different major. They would consider the fact that you are coming from different field and will take an interesting look at it. I do not think degree would matter much if you get A's on all your preresquite courses. But, make sure you take those courses at 4 year institution. Post-bac is a good option if the school you want to go approves. I do not see a reason why they won't accept it. But, coming from other countries, I am not sure if you can get into the program. Honestly, I suggest that you transfer to 4 year institution and while earning your degree, take DAT, apply and see what happens.

kinda hard to answer these questions. Most of us are not in your situation since all of us have gotten (or are getting) our degrees in the USA.

You should call dental schools individually and see what they have to say.

From the 5 interviews I been to so far, dental schools DO NOT REQUIRE a bachelors degree when applying, but they HEAVILY consider it part of a competitive application.
