Basically my PA opportunity at my local hospital today went flat, there was apparently miscommunication and there was supposed to be no more students shadowing. I spent the rest of the day there today working in the ER (its only one day a week, and theres a BUNCH of high school students there, I feel like I shouldnt be there, I am a rising soph. in college).

I missed out on the deadlines for all the special summer programs at hospitals, and I REALLY need something to fill my time.

I have an interview at another, different hospital tommorow. My choices are, (well, what I WANT to do, not neccesarily my choices) either working in the lab, or shadowing someone (I don't even know anyone there)...also, Im not sure if they allow students to handle chemicals in a lab.

I have a family member who is a doctor. He lives about 40 minutes away from me, so I would have to sleep at his house and everything. He has an established practice at a hospital and has been doing it for around 15 years now. Should I ask him if I could shadow him? (he is willing, I am sure). Would this be my best bet?

I feel lost. Anyone have any other options? I know, I should have looked earlier but I made a mistake, and am paying for it now.

Dude, you were the one who posted the "ECs that really stand out" thread. People already gave you advice there. Why not take the initiative and be creative? It is not our job to find your EC's for you - but just in case it is, you already got several suggestions in your other thread. Try those.

ECs aren't check boxes! Take the ER gig. Any clinical experience is good if it will help you figure out whether or not this profession is for you.

Also, you're a rising sophomore. Relax -- you have plenty of time to figure things out. You're going to have an anxiety attack come application time if you worry so much at this stage!

I worked as an assistant chef in a restaurant my freshman summer, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Get a fun job or develop other interests if you can't find a medically-related internship-- this summer is one of your last chances to do so.

Your right, sorry. I'll re-read the responses.
