I have a okay DAT score of TS 20 and AA 19 but my RC score (16) is really dragging me down
I am planning on retaking DAT because many schools don't accept 16's
I have been using a method where I write down key words from each paragraph and come back to them.
But I was not able to answer questions that ask about the entire passage obviously because I didn't read the passage. English is my second language and I am a slow reader. I also know that I can't improve my reading skill in couple of months.
I was wondering if anyone could teach me a method that will work for me.
And is there anyone who improved his/her score dramatically?
All I need is 18 PLEASE HELP!

Try your best. I heard that someone got into UPenn with RC of 17. However, his oGPA is above 3.7. So there is always some leeway for many schools. The important thing is you need to shine in other aspects.

Best wishes!

Use search and destroy! You waste time by writing down the key words! Scan your article in 2 minutes and get straight to questions. Get used to scrolling your paragraph back and forth fast and stay sharp while doing that! Hopefully you get easier articles next time you take it! I was averaging 15 on practice tests, but got 17 in RC on the actual DAT. I got accepted with this score, but my GPA is 3.74 TS 23. I was studying hard core for sciences because I knew that I would have to compensate for my RC.

Thanks man! I will definitely try that method
I don't have 3.74 gpa so I have to try a lot harder 🙂

Definitely search and destroy. I don't think you would have enough time if you write down the key words. Just do some practice questions by doing that method, you should be fine.

I'm not a native speaker, just like you. In addition, looking at your posts, it seems that you may have better English than me. So, I think having English as you second language shouldn't stop you from getting scores higher than 16. You just need a technique that works for you 🙂. Good luck!

You'll be surprised by how much your reading improve if you do intense reading, and by that I mean finishing books in 2-5days. This method always works for me in reading & math. Side effect: you lose your new acquired ability of fast math problem solving/reading fast in a matter of 2-3weeks if you stop practicing.

Search and Destroy.
Also read lots of health articles. While you might only have one health article on the DAT, it helps with overall comprehension.
Also read newspapers and journal magazines. Harder the better. Time yourself on them.

Edit:
I also found Crack DAT RC very helpful!

Thank you so much guys!!! 🙂

I took the DAT twice! My reading score was 16 both times. I knew reading and math were my weakness so what I decided to do on round two was to do very very well on the PAT and the Sciences in order to offset the reading and math. My sciences were all above 22 and my PAT was 19. Guess what? I have been accepted to dental school in Florida. I believe they will take your history with English into consideration. All you have to do is believe!!!

By the way my GPA was a 3.2 but I have many many years of experience as a nurse.

Just like you, English is my second language. I did not let that stop me. I made no complaints. I used search and destroy and it served me well. Keep practicing!!!
