I had this a similar thread already, but there was only one person who replied so I just wanted to get a couple more advices. The situation is I am failing calculus I with a D. And there is one big test (final) left. If I ace it like 190/200, then I will get a B. Other than that, I think I can get a C. I know the situation is bad, and I would no hesistat to drop, but I already have a "W" in this class from last semester. I calculated my science gpa with an assumption that I have a C in cal I, and it turned out that I will have 2.85 gpa with around 15 credits hour (eng, bio, bio, cal 1) . And my semester gpa will be around 3.25. IF i drop Cal, I will have 3.6 gpa, and overall my cummulative gpa will increase from 3.4 to 3.55. If i get a C, it will drop from 3.4 to 3.22. So anyways, It is still early though keep in mind that I am planning to be a humanities major possibly in philosophy, that I still have general chem, organic chem, physics, and some bio classes left to take for the prequisite. Would it be wise to stick with the class and get a C or withdraw for a 2nd W, has this situation ever happen to anyone, if so how does a 2nd "w" in the same class look to adcoms?

It does raise a red flag to withdraw twice from the same class. On the other hand, it doesn't look good to have a C. Protecting the gpa should be a priority but there comes a point when the red flag of 2 withdrawals could outweigh the 0.03 bump in gpa you'll have at the end of 3 years if you drop vs. take the C.

Do as you wish but also vow not to come back here until after your final in Calculus. Pour everything into doing well on that exam.

This also depends on how well you think you will do if you retake it for the third time. I know personally I am not very good at math so I would lean toward the C as horrible as that sounds. Esp. since you can get a tutor for that last exam and try to hit it out of the park.

Also, did you talk to the prof? Rarely I have heard of profs. letting people retake past exams and getting half credits for correcting past answers. My chem prof. offered it to the class on the basis that he hoped we would ultimately learn the material... One can hope:xf:
