I'm needing some tips on how to best approach this class. I am more of a math oriented person, and memorization is more difficult for me. How should I approach studying for this class?

I am very proud of my A in Anatomy. This is how I studied. I asked the teacher for the diagrams that are going to be on the exam. I made several copies with the names removed and just practiced naming them. I usually start this about a week before the test. If your teacher is unwilling to give the diagrams go ask around someone has an old test. For the naming on the cadaver, I would take pictures with my camera (please ask before hand some schools won’t let you). I would then show the pictures to my professor and ask for help on the naming. Another good idea that worked for my friends is the Anatomy coloring book. Finally, review all of the summaries in the book they give you a lot of information.

Writing things down has always worked well for me. Take notes from your text, make lists of anything you should be able to recall, label drawings of systems or structures, etc. Keep doing this untill you're sick of it, and then do it somemore.

Make index cards from your notes. Very handy to have.

Get yourself a bf/gf, and know every inch of his/her body.

Do you have a cadavar to work with? If you do, you should spend a lot of time with him/her to memorize body parts/organs. This is what I did and it helped a lot to have the real visual aid 🙂

If your course is not cadavar-based, then you consider following other users' advice. Draw pictures, make tables, fill in blanks in figures, etc. 🙂😎😀

Your teacher gave you diagrams that would be on the exam? Damn that's lucky and/or ridiculous haha.

Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for your career, and I mean actual sacrifices. If they don't give you a body to work with, maybe it's time to get one of your own. :horns:

What is this anatomy coloring book you speak of? It sounds awesome!

Yeah, one of my friends took at anatomy class at VCU and said that it was the most difficult class she'd ever took.

Haha. You are more committed than I am 😉😎😀

I used the anatomy coloring book and rocked the class. Definitely invest in it. They sold it at my school's bookstore, but if your school doesn't have it, I would just search "Human Anatomy Coloring Book" on amazon.com and I'm sure they will have multiple selections.

did it come w/ crayons?

Go to as many open labs as possible. If there are no open labs ask your professor to create one. Make or buy flash cards and cary them with you. If you have any down time you should be reviewing them. Repitition is key for anatomy. Do not wait until the night before a lab exam to study. Give yourself a good week or two. Good luck

Buy this book and learn it....

Atlas of Human Anatomy by Frank H. Netter

Best book for realistic structures.

If your human anatomy class is cadaver based and you have a choice in cadavers....... get the skinniest one you can.
Fat ones take lots of time dissecting out the features.

Oh I know!
I had to give my guy a 2-hour liposuction before I could see his muscle tissues. Gross!
