like, i vaguely type all of the prime topics during class, and here or there facts,

then i go to the library and rewrite the notes in more detail. plus i can study my own written notes a lot better than i can study notes ive typed.

Forget writing anything down. I just sit and listen. When you're not struggling to copy every word a prof. says, you'd be amazed how much you can retain.

Then I read the book. Doesn't have to be an assigned textbook, just a good textbook on the subject.

👍

I take minimal notes and everyone always asks how I can get away with that. And I just tell them the same thing. Actually listen in class and do not just copy down everything the professor puts on the board. This way you actually absorb most of what the professor says without having to go over your notes to learn it.

Statistically, listening to someone lecture is the worst means of retaining information. Active memorization such as rewriting notes is significantly better and will yield to higher grades. The best way to learn the material however is to actually lecture to others about it.

Take notes from the professor's lecture and go over the txtbook, and if i have questions, go to his/her office hours.
Attending office hours is a great way to get to know the professor, he/she could be a potential letter of Recommendation (LOR) writer 👍

yeah i agree with you guys all im saying is if i re-write the notes slowly, think about what im writing, and slowly read over my written notes i retain it a lot better.

point of the OP is that i can read my own written notes better and remember better than just skimming over typed BS from what i did in class

This has always been the best method for me. For really difficult to absorb topics, recording and listening back 2X speed while taking notes is something I've used very rarely. I think it has to do with the individual though. Most upper level science courses I "get" from listening to the lecture live. I don't "get" it as well when I'm busy writing notes. Of course most medical schools have a note taking service so this is perfect for my style.

not the same for all. I was an "active" student during my first two anatomy tests with grades in the low B range, since i switched to no notes (just watching lecture vids and reviewing the power points) my grades are in the low A , high B range, all with less effort of having to take down notes and trying to figure out what to write.

FWIW im talking about non scientific classes that i absolutely hate. such as, geography, interpersonal communication, political BS.

lol

What works for one person, might not work for the next. Use the methods that work best for you. Some people need to take notes to learn, others need to hear the lecture to learn, etc. Make sure you've figured out your learning style before medical school.

Notes are boring. Find some people who are active learners, find a location to study, discuss lectures, scream, shout, run in circles, invent stupid songs and rhymes, quiz each other, repeat until everything clear. I'm not joking, that's my favorite way to study and it works wonderfully for me. Plus it's fun. The hardest part is finding other people who study that way too.

yup....

ONE class where the teacher does not post the slides online and also doesn't follow the book makes it the one biology class I'm not going to get an A in. In all my bio classes easy or hard, I sit there and go home/library and rewrite the notes super detailed according to the book.

For classes like these, read the book before the class. Then when you listen to the lecture, you already know most of it.
