I took the first year of general chem a couple years back---I received a B+ in both semesters. I decided, just as a refresher course to take g-chem 1a again this semester so that I could become reaquainted with the material and be better prepared for the DAT. It turns out that around the same time the semester started, my wife got diagnosed with MS and to put things rather bluntly, our whole life went down the drain including this semester. By the looks of things I will probably get a D in the class, and this is my senior years. Will dental schools look down on this considering that I already took the courses? Do I need to take the course over again, or should I just suffer with the D and apply, relying mostly on the grades from the previous classes in Chemistry? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if its not too late... try and drop or get the W... you have good reasons to... best wishes to you and your family.

hopefully you have discussed this with your adviser already... if so, you might be able to get an Incomplete (MUCH better option than W) and work it out with your prof later....

i'm sorry to hear about your wife and hope things work out for you.

As well, on the AADSAS application there will be a question for you to explain why your academic performance has been effected by excruciating circumstances. This is whether you can tell the adcom about your situation.

Yes, do include your situation in this part of the application as I am sure adcoms are willing to place your performance into perspective. I hope everything take a turn for the better for both you and your wife.

Try to get an Incomplete... if not.. withdraw (I had a "w" on my If that doesn't work, always remember that you will have a chance to explain yourself on an interview. Most adcoms are really quite understanding about things! Best wishes to you and your wife.
