bull$hit. the only TRUE hispanics are iberians (look up what "hispanic" actually is), including portuguese, basques, aragonese, castillians, valencians, canary islanders, andalusians, galicians, and aranese, asturians, leonese, and those from gibraltar and andorra.
hispanics outside of iberia includue Latin American and those in the phillipines/guam.
there are 20 Hispanic countries in the world, Spain being the "mother" country, or Hispanola (the Roman's name for the Iberian Penninsula).
i'm a Spanish citizen (and U.S), and i HATE it when people argue, "oh, you're not really hispanic". it's like, "F-ck off, douchebag. If you know what Hispanic even means..."...arghhh it's quite frustrating. it's even better getting these comments from mexicans speaking their corrupted version of spanish.
in fact, i once applied to a minority scholarship as Hispanic and made it to the top 10 regional finalists.
i walk in for an interview by the committee, and they stare at me. i'm not dark-skinned (most spaniards are not; southerners are tan, but not actually brown-skinned), and i look "white."
it didn't matter that i was highly qualified. or that i spoke 3 spanish dialects, and that i had an enormous cultural experience that would outdo most other "hispanic" applicants.
the first question out of their self-righteous mouths?
"you don't look hispanic."
this is why i disdain the whole URM crap--it's reverse racism. diversity is not a matter of skin color, but of cultural enrichment. it makes me furious to think i was dismissed as too white even though i was more culturally rich than some kid of mexican parents whose skin is dark, yet he doesn't know squat **** about mexican culture or even how to read and write spanish. (i was told beforehand by the secretary that they were considering me for the regional winner--after this "interview," i left empty-handed).
the point is, american political correctness and "civil rights" are obsessed about skin color. they could give a rat's ass about REAL diversity; instead, it's the amount of melanin in your skin.
