What would have you done if you did not do medicine? If your a medical student/resident, etc... now what do industry/field/academics do you wish you would of done instead?

I wish I would have saved money for breast implants, been a stripper in vegas and saved a buttload of cash then moved to hawaii... It might still pan out...

If I didn't get into med school, I'd probably try one of the other health professions. I don't think I would go back to my old field of IT. I didn't like it and I find it limiting and there's more job security in the health care fields in the future.

I still want to be a bouncer. It just wouldn't pay off my undergrad student loan debt. Second to nightclub security, I'd probably think about nursing; specifically an infection control coordinator.

As noted elsewhere, my first choice was PA school, but I was rejected.

which medical school accepted you? lol

well i dont wish that i decided to go to med school.. i am very happy with my choice... but had i not chosen to become a doctor, i probably would have sold my soul to the devil.. which means that i would have i-banked on wall street

hmmm...well, I'm happy with medicine thus far, but I'd probably select a field where I could utilize my computer science degree a bit more were I not in med school...

well, i'm not a huge fan of med school thus far, but once I get through this second year and start doing real medicine with real patients I might be happier. until then I'll continue regretting not going to paramedic school and sticking with EMS.

On the other hand, I've always thought being a UPS driver would be pretty cool...but not knowing what was in all of those boxes would probably drive me insane.

I've already done "X" (get a PhD, then teach anatomy for a few years), so my heart is totally in medicine now. No regrets. Of course, I've just finished one semester, and I know it will get a lot harder, but honestly there's nothing else I'd rather do for a living.

I'd be a gangsta...with a crew...and knee deep in bitches.

I wanted to join a Leftist rebel group in South America to fight the gringos.

Unfortunately, I never learned Spanish . . .

I probably wish I'd gone into porn ..but I think I would actually like being a pathologist..it's one of the few things in this life that piques my interest

Can I have your spot in medical school?

Halfway through my third year, after my second week on L&D, I would have traded you my spot in school for a ham sandwich and a box of rubber bands.

Now that I'm through that, I wouldn't trade it for the world. Also, since I got through it, I feel that all students after me should suffer similar abuse . . . 😉

I'd still like to work with Shamu. Or do marine biology in general where I could swim with dolphins/whales -- not aqua-culture stuff. If I hadn't gotten into medicine, I was considering doing a Ph.D with immunology.

If I hadn't gotten into school I was planning on getting a PhD in evolutionary biology and studying the evolution of altruism and social behavior in primates. Still a really interesting field to me, but I want a stable family life too much to drag my wife and future kids around the jungles with me chasing after chimps.

This idea came after declaring myself eligible for the NBA draft back in 2000 and not getting selected, of course.

Infection control is pretty much the bouncers in a hospital anyway.

rock star.

but seriously, after exiting academia (~phd), and now being in med school - i should have just become a helicopter pilot. best job market in the US.

all the old vietnam vets are retiring. you always sleep in the same city. you fly an awesome piece of equipment, and you make up to 6 figures.

Anything else, even bagged groceries.🙁

I am soooooooooo totally with you on that one...I really thought I was the only one who thought like that 😀

But had I not entered med school (which sometimes I wish I hadn't), I'd have done forensics.

It's hard to imagine doing something else instead of medicine. However, I would like to have taken an astronomy course. Actually, I think I will after residency.

Dramatic arts.

Journalism

Political science with the object of joining the ranks of professional diplomats.

Damn, what the HELL was I thinking when I enrolled in med school?!

I would be a diplomat

I would've taken a year off and worked for 6 months and travelled the other 6. I would've researched the dental field (especially oral maxillofacial surgery) a little more.

One thing I have learned since I have been here (1 1/2 years) is that the more I know the more I wish I didn't want to know in the first place... No brain no pain... ignorance is bliss etc...

I love to cook, so If I didn't do this I would want to be a chef, and open my own resturant that only serves breakfast and lunch so I can be with my family in the evenings I still hope to be a mother and a wife, but if something doesn't happen in this direction relativly soon, I'm gonna go all the way and become a neurosurgeon...
