For those who get in with GPA and DAT below the average, around 3.0 or maybe under...congrats! However, for those who are shocked and surprised dont be! True the competiveness of this career has increased dramatically within the last ten years, doesnt mean that those who got in with below average scores wouldnt make great dentist! I mean look at YOUR dentist! The average scores when they were applying where around 3.0 and maybe less...does that mean they are not great dentist? Of course not! Oh also, how many of those dentist today are black or hispanic? Not many!! They were in fact your inspiration for getting into this career! Just because the competiveness of this career has shot up that the average is now about 3.5 or higher, still doesnt mean that those who get in with much lower stats wouldnt make great dentist! Why do you think about 85% of dental schools dont have a minimum GPA? The averages we see on the website are only AVERAGES meaning some will get in with higher scores, and some will get in lower scores! If you have the drive, motivation and passion for ANY field, not just in dental, you will be successful no matter what your stats are! 👍

Dental schools want real dentists to apply

Agreed, but still schools do cuts by looking at numbers first, right ?

True! But based on many of the requirments that is shown on D-School websites, I have yet to see a cut-off that is greater than 3.0 or perhaps 3.1. There may be some, but I would say most of them have a minimum thats like 2.5 or something like that
