Hi! I am looking to apply to flexmed this January and a little worried about my stats. Also, is it only for humanities/social sciences majors? because I am a healthcare informatics/computer science major.

William and Mary- small liberal arts school in VA
3.66 gpa freshmen yr
graduated hs w a 3.9
SAT 2110 superscore
ACT 34

I have all the typical pre-med EC's like hospital shadowing/volunteering
I sing and play piano
can code(unfortunately thats cool for a female these days) and im working on a project to reduce variability of diagnoses amongst different specialists.

Im just worried that my highschool gpa and sat scores a little low, and i probably wont do so well in the interview

Thanks!!

Welcome to SDN skrrss!

There really isn't much available data (if any) to determine how you compare with the average accepted student. I'd suggest just applying (if you can). If you happen to get an interview, prep really well and regardless of the outcome it'll be a great experience.

Hello skrrss!

FlexMed is for all majors: I am a microbiology major and I also plan on applying to FlexMed. I would also suggest that you apply: if you get in, you would have a seat waiting for you in a top notch medical program. If you don't get in, you will have gotten great experience with building a medical application.

Hey everyone! I was planning on applying for flexmed as well. I am currently an English major but am also planning on majoring in Neurobiology while possibly minoring in French. My high school GPA was a 4.0 while my SAT score was definitely not the best (around 1670). While in high school, I volunteered at a physical therapy office, tutored, practiced tae kwon do, took numerous college-level courses, was part of the National Society of High School Scholars, and was invited to take part in The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. I am on the dean's list for my spring semester of my freshman year of college but my overall GPA is (3.1). Due to commuting to and from school and personal issues, I was having a rough time adjusting to college life ( 3 C's and 1 B in my first year) :( I was looking at previous threads and many of the applicants go to prestigious schools and have a near-perfect GPA as well as a ton of volunteer/shadowing experience. I guess you could say I am not feeling very confident in applying :( So, I was wondering what you guys think... I know I am not the most competitive applicant but do I stand a chance? I know Flexmed is looking for top students and while my first year says otherwise, I personally feel that I could improve my grades immensely and be the student they (as well as other med schools) are looking for, but since I screwed myself over in my freshman year I'm feeling a bit discouraged.

Camsteph,

During the Webinar that I attended on Flexmed it said that the average GPA for the program is 3.92, the average ACT was 34, and the average SAT (2400) was about 2300. Normally I would say go for it, but your stats are way too far below the average, and those 3 C's will be a significant issue when it comes to admission, so I do not think you would be a competitive applicant. That being said, if you keep on working to improve your GPA and get involved in more clinical experiences, you will probably be a good applicant at regular admission to medical school.
