I've heard that there are some docs who are both Infectious Disease and Critical Care specialized. I am considering this combo, but would like to pick the brains of those who have gone before me. Can anyone pass along(either here or via PM) the names and location/institution where some of these ID/CC docs may be so I can do some networking. Thanks

be careful, my interest lies solely in doing critical care, I thought about that route considering ID fellowship's aren't supposed to be that tough and in my opinion are very interesting. I've "heard" that these 1 year CCM fellowships are hard to come by so I ditched the idea completely, not worth the gamble.

Places that have strong CCM-only programs will generally be more open to this than places that demand P/CCM. As an example, the CCM program at my training institution was >50% non-Pulm trainees. In the few years I was there and paying attention they had a couple of Renal-CCM, one ID-CCM, a Cards-CCM and (oddly IMHO) an Endo-CCM.

It's often not a "combined" program, rather something that you start to pursue during your primary fellowship. Generally done outside the Match. If you're interested in this, contact the CCM PDs at hospital's you're interested in for ID.
