If you plan on going into general dentistry, does it matter as much where you get your degree? I have the choice between Penn and Nova, and I'm having a tough time. I feel that I'd be happier at Nova, but I feel drawn to the opportunity to go to Penn.

Any dental school is going to give you a great education. They don't rank for a reason. Go to the school that will make you the happiest and also give you the least amount of debt. When all is said and done, it doesn't matter where you get your degree.

I'm just curious, armoshell, are you planning to specialize after school?? Suddenly I'm curious....

you all should visit Dentaltown and see what dentists have to say about this. I assure you, no one will tell you that your dental school matters. Go to the cheapest and most comfortable school.

the problem for the OP is that neither school is cheap.

The OP should go where ever he/she will be happiest, nuff said.

Nova is warmer than Penn... Penn is a better school for specializing (from what I've heard.) But if you don't plan to specialize, I'd go to Nova where its cheaper and warmer 😀

I agree if you don't want to specialize go with the cheaper school.

I just feel that I have worked so hard to this point that I'm selling myself short in going to Nova. At the same time, it's difficult for me to pick up my life and move way up north to Penn. My dentist (local) urged me to go to Penn to get the best education, but my feeling is there really isn't a difference one way or the other as long as I perform well on the boards. AHHH.

All you're going to be missing out on is the "cocktail party" prestige of getting to tell people you have an ivy league degree. The education you'll get at Nova or Penn is probably functionally identical, and you'll be spending much less dinero at Nova.

Not to mention, as far as your own personal success, you've already done the hardest part : getting accepted to the ivy league.
