I am so excited! I just got my invite for an interview at ISU today! I listed the dates that work and hopefully get in at the end of the month. I am not from Idaho and they are not counting my BS (since I get it in Dec 08 not Aug) so I was worried I wasnt going to hear from them....SO SO excited! 🙂
Anyone else??

Anyone else??

I just updated my Residency status so hopefully I will get one soon!! 😀 Good luck!! When is your interview? Did you get it by mail?

an email. Are you a resident of ID? I heard that it is so much easier to get in if your from ID (since somethings like 80% are instate). I will know my interview date on Monday. 🙂 I am nervous but so excited!
GOOD LUCK!

My interview in on the 29th. Anyone else heard anything yet??

I got an invite, I havent decided what day yet though.

😀Congrats to those with invites!! 😀

I scheduled mine for the 4th of march.

Just an FYI: all of the out-of-state interview invites went out last week, and I'm pretty sure that all of the in-state interview invites have also gone out. There were about 630 completed applications this year and 120 people were invited to interview. Of the 60 students that will be accepted, about 50 will be from instate and about 10 will be from out of state. I don't know the breakdown of how many people from instate/out of state were invited to interview, though.

Last time I checked, the rejection letters had not gone out, but if you haven't gotten an interview invite, 🙁. EDIT: I guess that some rejection letters HAVE gone out.

:luck::luck::luck: to everyone who has interviews! I'm sure that I'll see you around on your interview day!

moxxie, when do you get an intern pharmacist license in the state of Idaho?

moxxie, when do you get an intern pharmacist license in the state of Idaho?

As soon as you have your letter of acceptance in hand and have enrolled you can get your intern license. The Dean of the CoP has to sign a form saying that you're registered in pharmacy school. Then you send the board of pharmacy $50 plus a picture of yourself. I applied for my intern license a couple of weeks before my P1 year started. I think that I got my license in the mail only a week or so later.

See http://bop.accessidaho.org/bop/forms/index.html for more info. 🙂

hey guys! to those that got an interview, what r ur stats if u don't mind me asking? bc I just got my rejection letter in the mail today, I had over GPA of 3.81, and a Science GPA of 3.9, and I am out of state. I was just wondering!

thanks moxxie, if you dont mind me asking what is the pay in pocatello for intern pharmacists?

It totally depends on where you work. I've heard reports of $6/hr (yuck!) up to $18/hr (super rare - only one store that only hires 2 interns). I started at $12.85/hour with my company and am now making almost $15/hour. One thing about Pocatello, though - there are not a lot of pharmacies yet there are a LOT of pharmacy students clamoring for jobs. Plus, a lot of places have rules as to how many P1s, P2s, etc that they'll employ. It's pretty dang hard to find a position - I had to work at a store 25 miles away my P1 year. I'm actually not working now - only on breaks in Boise, where it is much easier to find hours.

If you get in and decide to go to ISU, my recommendation is to move to Poky early (say in July or early August) and hit up the pharmacies for jobs then. I started applying for jobs in Pocatello around August 15th and had no luck - all of the spots for P1s in town were already full.

moxxie thanks so much for the info. I was wondering if you knew how many in most classes are also getting their phD?

As far as I know, there are NO students currently enrolled in the dual PharmD/PhD program (I could be wrong though). However, there is one guy in my class that just took the GRE so that he could apply for the program. We have a lot more people in the MBA/PharmD program.

Moxxie thanks for the info.

How did the interivews go for everyone? I thought it went pretty well. I just wish they got back to us faster, I have to put a deposit down at one of the other schools I got into.

I thought my interview went well. However, I am pretty disappointed that this school wasted our time by having P1s interview us. The interview process had so much downtime and then insulted us by having P1s ask us the same questions the interviewers did. I think it would have been much more valuable to have the insight of 3rd year students. Anyone else have an opinion about the ISU interview process?

Which students interviewed totally is dependent on our school schedule. All of the student interviews were from 2pm-3pm. The P1s have more time in the afternoons right now - P2s have class everyday except for Friday until 3pm. The P3s have class most days until 4pm. So it really was just a matter of scheduling. I participated in two interview days, and it was only P2s and one P4 that were available on those days. It's also true that a lot of the P3s have helped with interviews for the last two years and didn't feel like doing it this year. We have all had huge exams lately and many people work. Helping with interviews isn't mandatory at all.

Sorry that you felt that having P1s interview you was insulting. As P1s they still have more experience in pharmacy school then you do, and their memories of what the first year is like are more fresh. Remember, what those students thought of you is definitely considered during the decision process. It wasn't intentional for them to ask you the same questions that the faculty asked you - there is a list of certain questions that we can ask (or make modifications to), and you just must have gotten people with similar minds.

As to the huge blocks of time that you guys sat twiddling your thumbs, I think that that is a shame. But there are only so many faculty available for interviews and on most days there were 16+ interviewees. Did you go on the campus tour? That's what I did to help pass some time on my interview day two years ago. I also explored the campus on my own and struck up conversations with the current students hanging out in the student lounge. I learned a lot from these experiences too.

ISU, like every school, puts a lot of work into the admissions process. None of the students and few of the faculty that interviewed you were required to do so. It's actually insulting to me that you think so little of the interview process. You're not in pharmacy school yet - don't look down on the faculty, administration and students that are already in the program.

Ya I apologize for my poor use of words. I was not "insulted" at the process, I just felt the school could have done more to impress the potential students. I realize there are time restraints amongst the faculty, but I feel it was not necessary for us to arrive at 8 am and stay until 4:30, when there was really only about 3 hours of activities. I think I may have also been unlucky that our campus tour was only 25 minutes (our guide had class a half an hour after the tour started). I did not mean to come off so critical toward the P1 students, I just wanted to see how other applicants felt about this interview compared to others.
However, I do appreciate you explaining why things were run the way they were.

Anyone out there get accepted to ISU.

I am going to ISU Pharmacy program for the interview next week and was wondering if anybody have any idea of case study discussion and the writing assessment that can help me to prepare for it. thank you
