Ideas for a service project ???

Hey everyone, I am the Pre-Pharmacy chair in the biology club at my school, and one of the requirements is to do a service project. Does anyone have ideas of a Pharmacy related service project me and my classmates could do. Thanks

Could you convince a local pharmacist to do some flu inoculations? That'd be a hell of a community service project. I don't know if it's doable, but wanted to throw it out there. 🙂

Just off the top of my head, you could do an awareness campaign about expired prescriptions. I've heard that you can't really go by the date on the prescription most drugs lose their potency over time. You could research that and inform the public when the appropriate time is to discard their medications and what is the proper method of doing so? Flushing them down the toilet? Turning them into the health department? I don't know the answer (but in the future I'm sure I will). My first idea was taking up a collection of expired prescriptions but that could be a Pandora's box so it is best to use the hands-off approach and concentrate on getting out the information. Hope this helps!

I'd pick a lower socioeconomic neighborhood and volunteer at one of their neighborhood community centers making over the place. You all can do fundraisers or perhaps the school will allocate funds to buy paint supplies and the such to paint some rooms, beautify the exterior, or clean-up the playground. Pharmacy schools like to see a strong initiative to help the community, especially disadvantaged communities, so by giving your time to organize this type of thing I think that will display leadership qualities and the desire to increase the quality of life for others. I think this would be better than some awareness campaign and you can pinpoint this experience when applying to pharmacy schools.

Where in UT. If you're near UU or South Jordan you could co-coordinate an event with the Pharm Students there.
