If accepted next week, what would you do first?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those applicants who are fortunate enough, what will be the first thing(s) you do when you hear the good news?
Withdraw from my 3 nov interviews and be happy im saving about 700+ on airline tickets lol

1. cry tears of happiness
2. drive 2 hours to my parents house where they will
3. have a party with my relatives
4. call into work! :meanie:

Tell my fiancee. She's been very helpful/supportive. I have no idea what to expect though. I suppose hold is most likely.

i would cut out dollar bill sized pieces of all the information letters i got from my interviewed at and make it rain while playing that song in the background. i might have to wait until i have a couple of more interviews and a paper shredder slash vacuum cleaner

I personally would,

1) Freak out on multiple levels
2) Call my parents
3) Physically force some friends to abandon their work and go out to eat w/ me
4) Not stop smiling until next August, when the pain starts 😀

Tell my husband... go celebrate with my family/friends... probably faint >.>

 great idea

Tell SDN and my future classmates of 2014, just like everyone else will do, of course. 😉

And then proceed to party like it was 1999 (that was a good year after all). Again. For the third time. Guess I'm just gettin' old. 😳🙁

I will skip class and call my parents and gf, if applicable.

Then I will probably drink heavily, opening my bottle of Crown XR I've saved for the occasion.

Funny, I had a similar thought. Maybe it's a Philly thing? Head down to some club in old city, with a bunch of one dollar bills, and then get on like a balcony and then make it rain of them hoes.

1. Get really excited/jump up and down
2. Inform my loved ones
3. Go to Sonic
4. Party all night

👍

I would do the same, but I might have to drive a couple of hundred miles to do it!

You're on!

I work with other people that are applying to med schools as well, but thanks to SDN scaring me into applying early, I've been a little bit ahead of the other folks in terms of interviewing. So if I do get an acceptance, I hope I don't like scream or freak out.

I'm going to go for that Tiger Woods fist pump- cool calm and collective. Then make it rain once I get in da club.

yea. olde city is kinda expensive. have you been to the club by penn where someone got shot recently. they have free lunch there (its gross, yes i have gone just for the free lunch), but you could take 2 birds in one

Ooooooh a steak. Great idea. Sonic then a steak!! God, if I don't accepted I'm going to be so sad because these celebratory ideas rule so hard.

No I've never been there. What's the name of the place.

And what kind of club gives free lunch? Sounds fishy.

i dont know the name but its right underneath the chile's on 38th and chestnut

what happens if we get rejected from every school we interviewed at, then what should i do?

Wait - isn't that a strip club?!? We were in Chile's on a Sunday afternoon and you could hear some booty-popping music banging from below the floorboards...:eyebrow:

In other news...I'd prolly
1) Pass out
2) run around the block/street like a giddy lil' kid
3) post it on twitter/fb/SDN/AIM
4) call family and close friends (or send a massive text to a bunch of ppl)
5) eat something good
6) party all around the tri-state area for a few days...it would be a celebration

Call my mom. Find my friends at JHU (where I'll be on the 15th) and tell them. Post on SDN/fb. Go to bed because I have an interview on the 16th. 😳

Eeew, UCity clubs are gross (to the above posters).

When I got my first acceptance, I was in p-chem lab 🙁. Afterwards I tried to call my parents, no answer... my best friend at school, no answer... my best friend from home, no answer. Finally I saw above best friend in the hallway and told him. After that, I stopped caring and coasted by, still keeping about a 3.6 both semesters (which is rather impressive).

1) well i'd be a lot more relieved and start taking things really easy

2) cancel a lot of my invites except for my dream schools

3) tell my friends and family and go out to a nice restaurant

4) realize that I'm going to med school and need to cram everything I've ever wanted to do and do it right now b/c once it starts I might never get a chance to

I will have my finger on the 'send' button for an email I will have already written canceling an upcoming interview at a certain school which I do NOT want to attend unless I absolutely have to...ooh, this is starting to feel like bad karma, huh?

Seriously, the interview list will shrink down to one or two more schools...

1. sit still for a few minutes with my mouth gaping open
2. call my parents
3. withdraw from the schools i don't care about
4. have a beer and some ice cream

wow im the opposite. im going to email pending schools telling me to consider/schedule me because im in the area for my remaining 8 interviews. just get them all done since tix/hotels are booked.

I'd probably go to the library and make a scene, i.e standing on top of tables, flipping over books, bookshelves, librarians, etc...

You wrote out the "/" ? Why?

i'm ****ing industrious bro

i like your idea though. public library or university library. either way, lets try to bring a homeless person along to be involved within our comminuties

👍👍👍

1. Jump up and down pumping my arms and shouting.
2. Go tell my grandparents in person, (they have been very supportive financially and emotionally)
3. Go out to my favorite resteraunt.
4. The next day catch a flight to Hawaii for 25 days of proper celebrating the way god intended, with 30+ miles of biking/day and climbing diamond head crater again and again and again, (my record is 6 times in a row).

Cry.

Then post a facebook status (it's not official til it's on Facebook 😉).

Then eat a pint of ice cream and look very critically at the schools I've yet to interview at to see whether or not it's worth it to waste money on interviewing there.

But I won't find out on the 15th. I'll get a letter probably the 19th, and might hear from another school by the end of October. Maybe.

buy a bottle of grey goose and hopefully not drink too much that i can still go out to the bars later lol then skip my classes friday morning

1. ZOMG I'm going to be a doctor!!!!!!!!!!!

2. Drive to my husband's work to surprise him and tell him in person, while driving call my parents

3. Try to figure out when to tell my work I'm leaving... I want to do it right away cause until I tell work I can’t put it on FB (small lab, FB friends with co-workers).... BUT... I don't want there to be awkwardness for the next 10 months cause everyone thinks I have one foot out the door....

4. Start packing!! JK

I am still two years off...But I was a slacker in high-school, so I would call random people from my high school and say, "Hey, what are you up to?" Then they would say, " Oh, I graduated and I am working at blah blah blah." Then they would say, "So, what did you ever end up doing?" Then I would casually say, "Oh nothing much, I'm going to med-school next year, but other than that, nothing."

Is it weird that I have already thought of this? If it is, I don't care, it would/will be great.

There would be a lot of "I told you so" type phrases coming out of my mouth towards the indefinitely growing haters and non-believers in my life.

I'm right there with you man. Granted, I'm applying this year, but I was a major slacker in high school. My high school chem professor even questioned whether I should even be in college prep classes or should be in a remedial science curriculum haha. I tell people in college about how poorly I did in high school and no one can believe it because I've become so studious now. It's been interesting to see the people that were ranked ahead of me in high school (and believe me, there were plenty of them) and how they've dropped out of college and ended up back at home.

Freak out and then in all likelihood wake up and realize it was a dream.
