If I get into Harvard, I promise to donate...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What's so great about Harvard? Unless you're going into research/academic medicine, I don't see why it's so many peoples "greatest dream." I have heard people say that getting into Harvard med would be the highlight and best moment of their life. Sure, theres tons of prestige, but US MD anywhere confers the same career opportunities for private practice and, ultimately income, which is what is tangible and matters. Don't get me wrong...not trashing harvard in the least. I would go there instantly if accepted, I just don't see how its worth dying for or giving up something huge in one's life to get in, as some people (not necessarily in this thread) suggest. I wouldn't be that much more elated to get into harvard, than, say, SUNY Buffalo. Do other people feel similar to this sentiment, or the complete opposite?

I agree with you to some extent, but for me (and others I imagine) there is definitely an ego-driven desire to simply get accepted to the school that, in many people's eyes, has the best reputation in the world. Not saying that's even a major factor for choosing a school, but I think people that say it's not a factor at all kid themselves.

You've probably got lots of helpful information from SDN....you should donate either way.

Agreed. SDN has certainly given you a lot over the years. Why not support it whether you get accepted to one specific school or not?

I agree with this. I can understand why some people don't feel as swayed by the honor of being accepted to arguably the #1 school in the country, but I also think many people extremely exaggerate how little it means to them just to make their point. Why is that necessary? I suppose everyone copes with their life decisions in different ways.

You aren't the first person to report AP credit. They will know.

How so? My AMCAS says nothing about whether it was Calc AB or Calc BC. Nor did I report my scores to Harvard via the College Board when I was in high school.

If they have questions they'll ask you. I'm sure this has happened to them before. A grade of G means that you tested out. And 7 hours is too much for AB and too little for anything else.

If I get into Pritzker, I will paint SDN on my chest and post it. Take that to the bank! lol

Does anyone know if Biochem is mandatory or just recommended for Harvard?

If I get into Columbia SOM, I will donate a kidney, putting it at the disposal of a war stricken country's Red Cross.

Nephrology is very big at P&S and they always half jokingly ask for donors during that section, so I'd be careful what you say 😀

You couldn't pay me to go to med school at Harvard. Spend 4 years with that bunch of neurotic, back stabbing, hyper-competitive asses? No thanks.

I wouldn't. There are only a few places I can actually say I hate, but I hate the New England area (MA, RI, CT, NH, VT, etc).

Why is that? (I've never been there, but I'm applying to a good number of schools there lol)

Also, I LOL at the BAWWing at calc.

👍

I've never in my life had any desire to go to Harvard. Assuming I had the stats, I wouldn't even apply. UCLA or UCSF on the other hand....

I calculated exactly how much I owe SDN, as a more awesome replacement of my undergraduate advisor. $100000000000999.20
