Im a reapplicant and I already have a score on file of 24. I am retaking the MCAT 8/10/12. Will Osteopathic schools Definitely, hold off on my application until the new score comes? I have read threads where schools made descions based on the applicants old MCAT, didn't wait for the new score, rejected the applicant based on the old MCAT scores and refuse to reconsider their application.:scared:

I hear that MD schools are pretty good at waiting, but what about DO???

I've never read or heard of anything like that happening... I believe there's a box on AACOMAS that says you'll be retaking your MCAT. As long as that's checked, I think they'll wait for your new score and then look at your application again once it's in (assuming your old MCAT isn't good enough for an interview).

Those other people that you read about must have had too low of GPA's or something. I dunno.

I'm retaking 8/10! I'm glad you asked this because I was wondering the same thing too!

Good luck!

If I remember correctly, some schools will wait but some won't. I think I remember receiving a rejection letter from TOUROs but I think that's it. All my other schools waited. I recommend sending a letter to admissions saying that you have retaken your MCATs and expect your scores to be released whenever. Again, TOURO may have rejected me due to my GPA regardless of my MCAT score. I am an underdog after all but I assume the majority of DO schools would wait.

I think I still may wait until I get my scores back(9/11), submit my primaries and then submit my secondaries within a week. Thanks to SDN I can find the secondaries and pre-write them.

If you submit now, some will send out a rejection letter, but you can resubmit after your new scores come back. It is up to you, if you only have a few schools on your list, I would give them a call and see what they have to say.

Why would you do this? First when you submit your primaries it takes at least 2 to 3 weeks for the primary to be verified then a week for it to be released to schools, that at least a month behind your 9/11 date before a school even sees your primary. Just send the primary in now and tell the schools you are rtskeing by indicating this on AACOMAS. Then the schools will send you secondaries and you can send them back then they will put you on hold until your scores come in. Hold isn't a bad place to be and there are a ton of people who are doing this, so why would you wait. No school is going to reject you if they haven't seen your new scores and if they do seen them an email with your new scores and ask them to reopen your file and 9 times out of 10 they will. Don't wait submit the primary now.

I am actually going to submit my primaries in about 2 days. BUT with only 1 school for each( amcas/ aacomas). When my new scores come, I will add all the other schools. Thats what I meant.

Huh...is applying more then once to the same school-which has already rejected you- within the same application process even acceptable? I have never heard of anyone doing this ever. If this was possible, then why would new threads on "should i submit or wait till new scores" start so frequently? Weird...😕

I contacted they school that I was interested, they encouraged me to get my application in as early as possible. They have a computer system that sends out auto-rejections if you don't meet the minimum requirements (my MCAT is too old, so I am waiting for new scores). The admissions department said that when the new scores come out to re-submit, and the previous rejection will have no negative effect on my application. This may be school specific, but I assume that others run the same program.

I think most school will give out auto rejects if Mcat score is below average line by maybe 3-4 points.

I am in the same boat as you. I am ready to go but I am re-taking my MCAT and my first one is awful so I am afraid of auto-rejection. From what I heard, I think it is better to submit to one school which you dont really care about, get verified and then wait until AACOMAS has received your second mcat before applying.
