My advisor at school is absolutely useless so I figured I would ask you guys. If i were to take the exam on Jan 27, 2012 would it be too late to gain acceptance for a fall 2012 seat in a medical school? Or have I passed that date and my only chances are with a Caribbean school?

If it is too late I was thinking about pushing it to march. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Way too late. Most schools have secondary deadlines around devember. You will be getting your primary done in February at least.

You will have to apply in the 2013 cycle, sorry. Your advisor really didn't know this?

My advisor is a *****. I hate to call someone names but he told me he would look it up and get back to me. Then he told me that he thinks I should take it as soon as possible because with a good score I can get in. i do appreciate your information.

I believe schools don't accept applications with MCAT taken in 2012 for applicants aiming to matriculate in 2012. I don't know if there are exceptions.

Thats way too late my friend, just rock the MCAT in January and get your AMCAS application turned in the earliest you can when it becomes available for the 2013 cycle in June.

Yes, it is too late.

No, do not go Caribbean just because you didn't apply in time for this cycle.

Push the MCAT to March. If you haven't started to study for it, that should give you enough time to prepare. 🙂

Thank you so much for your kind words. I mean I am pretty much halfway done with organic chemi and bio and still havent reviewed chem and physics. I want to spend more time and take it in March. If I cannot get in anywhere in 2012 I do not see the point in rushing to take it in Jan. I want to be fully prepared.

Thisx1000. You have absolutely no reason to take the MCAT that early - do it early-mid march and you will be in good shape for next June.

Really sucks to hear about your advisor - I'm flabbergasted that a "premed advisor" would have suc a poor grasp on the basic timeline of med school applications.

Yes it is too late.

However, make a decision today to stop assuming it is your advisor's job to tell you how to get into medical school. Some are good, some suck, some are in-between.

Regardless, the info you have been given in this thread can be found easily on school websites and by searching here. You are not in a position to apply for 2012 and should have been able to confirm that in the time it took to type your post. How you got to within weeks of taking the MCAT, without being prepared to do well, and without even looking at the requirements the schools have amazes me.

This post alone proves you're better qualified to be an advisor than your actual advisor. You can even take the test in April or May and be fine for 2013. Sorry about your bad luck but just make up for it with an awesome application for next year.

AACOMAS (DO) med schools commonly consider the January MCAT and have later application deadlines than MD med schools. However, applying this late would put your application at a considerable disadvantage.

Agreed. Also, schools like Howard do take January MCAT scores. But, as the above poster said, you would be at a huge disadvantage.

I will just move it. There are no March dates available so I will move it to April and just work hard to excel on that date. Thank you guys.

To be fair to your advisor, you would have been nowhere close to being ready to take the MCAT in Jan given your level of preparation right now

You should push it back until June when you've finished your ochem and bio classes and you've had time to study

I'd just wait for the 2013 cycle. Just get some ECs in the meantime or whatever else you may need.

I can't believe your advisor doesn't know the fundamental aspects of the application process 🙁

At least you can get in an early app in June. Applying early is a massive boon to anyone's chances. Good luck.
