Obvious Mormon is obvious 😛Diet Dr. Pepper is both my pre and post-test bev of choice
Obvious Mormon is obvious 😛Diet Dr. Pepper is both my pre and post-test bev of choice
I directly asked their admissions staff if I could live with my girlfriend or have a glass of wine with dinner, and was told no on both accounts, and that I should really stop with the booze and marry my girlfriend if I wanted to attend.
Just ask them yourself, directly, via email. They'll tell you the score.

Thats a change, during the interview the director of admissions said it was okay to have a glass of wine with dinner. I guess all the heat they are taking for wavering is finally getting us the answers we need. I would rather have them be direct than how they were acting before.I directly asked their admissions staff if I could live with my girlfriend or have a glass of wine with dinner, and was told no on both accounts, and that I should really stop with the booze and marry my girlfriend if I wanted to attend.

Yeah, I've pasted the transcript of my email exchange with them in the past. The guy I was talking to was very nice, but also made it very clear that the lifestyle I was living was completely unacceptable and I would have to change if I wanted to attend Liberty.Thats a change, during the interview the director of admissions said it was okay to have a glass of wine with dinner. What an embarrassment.Heres a couple:
Sexual, Physical, Written or Verbal Misconduct
Respect for the dignity of each individual as a person created in God’s image is fundamental to
the institutional culture desired at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Misconduct that is contrary to the teachings of the Christian faith (thus constituting a violation of
the Code of Conduct includes, but is not limited to:
Sexually-oriented joking or comments
Harassment of an individual based on race or gender
Unwelcome touching or any touching of a sexual nature
Verbal or physical abuse
Verbal or written disrespect to a faculty or staff member (this includes e-mails)
Offensive or crude language directed at individuals
Display of objects or pictures that depict nudity or are otherwise sexual in nature
Persistent, unwanted attempts to change a casual or friendly relationship into a romantic
or more intimate one
Non-marital sexual relations and the encouragement or advocacy of sexual behaviors which
undermine Christian identity or Liberty Universities faith mission are defined by the University
as morally inappropriate misconduct and constitute violations of this Personal Code of Conduct.
Reporting Procedure
Any student who believes that he/she has been the subject of harassment in any form should
report the incident immediately to the Student Services Office. The student will be given the
opportunity to express his/her concerns and will then be appraised of the recourse available to
him/her under school policy and local and state statutes.
Pornography
Involvement with pornographic, obscene, indecent, or other similarly offensive materials,
expressions, or conduct is inconsistent with the Personal Code of Conduct and the Christian
World View of the College and University. Use of the University's computing network to obtain
or distribute such materials constitutes a violation of the Code.
Prohibited Substances
The College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks to provide a drug-free, healthy, and safe learning
environment. To this end, no student should misuse legal drugs or other legal medications, or
use, possess, distribute, or sell alcohol, illegal drugs or tobacco products.
Penalty
Any student of Liberty University, who engages in the aforementioned behavior(s), is subject to
disciplinary action, which may result in community service or possible dismissal. Since the
University takes such charges seriously, where the results of an investigation reveal a complaint
of harassment/sexual harassment to be frivolous or groundless, the individual having made such
a complaint may be subject to the same disciplinary action.
... also made it very clear that the lifestyle I was living was completely unacceptable and I would have to change if I wanted to attend Liberty.
Their issue was not that I was not fit to be a physician, for the record. Just that I did not have values that were compatible with their learning environment.Clearly, a person with a healthy relationship, who enjoys the occasional adult beverage, and appreciates a little off-color humor is a horrible person not fit to be a physician
(for the benefit of those on the board here with a broken sarcasm detector...I am being sarcastic here🙄)

I am a student in the Inaugural class...thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I was hesitant to attend LUCOM for the reasons stated above: it's extremely conservative. Upon beginning school, there was definitely adjustment for me however, I have found VERY little that I don't love about this school. Our dean is amazing, this is not his first rodeo. Are there creationists on staff? Yes. Are there people who are extremely Christen? Definitely. Has it negatively impacted my education? I don't think so. Along with some differences in ideology for sure, comes a genuine feeling of not being "just a number" at my medical school which is something I was looking for. Our faculty is great, there are of course professors that I learn better from than others but that would be the case no matter where I go. I am in constant contact with friends who are OMS 1 students elsewhere and we have the same issues with school. Our administration has done an amazing job at collecting student impressions, suggestion and complaints and implementing change for the greater good of the class. We have a WIDE variety of faiths in our class and for the most part, everyone respects each other more-so than personal experiences at undergraduate campuses. Does Liberty have a reputation, no doubt about it, but I can honestly say I am one of the most liberal people you will probably meet and I love it here. As physicians we will come up against differing opinions indefinitely, I feel that interacting with such a wide range of opinions and beliefs has helped me (in just my few short months) develop tools that I will use with patients and colleges in the future. If anyone has any personal questions feel free to ask I'm happy to share my experiences.... would you attend? Why or why not?
What i'm afraid of is that they incorporate religious viewpoints into the medical teaching curriculum and that'd be terrible. Any students from this school can give me an honest opinion on this school's teaching quality?
How restrictive were they on your personal life? I know they have the crazy rules but how strictly were they wnforced? Could you not drink at all or have a significant other stay the night with you? Honestly those are the two big ones that would bother me.I am a student in the Inaugural class...thought I would throw my 2 cents in. Apparently we have more student representation from LUCOM on this forum than from any other school.
We are still waiting on the handbook that LUCOM does not publish.
We are all adults and what we do on our own time is our business, none of us have gotten in trouble for what we do in our own time...obviously if you are getting hammered and wearing LUCOM or Liberty apparel you may have to speak with our dean because LU does have certain regulations and differentiating between LUCOM and LU students in our community is a work in progress seeing as we are still so new. LUCOM is a first year school, they also happen to be in existence much because of LU undergrad, so I wasn't surprised that our handbook was basically the undergrads with minor changes. HOWEVER, our dean has made things very clear, that we are adults and shall be treated as such...that we are in professional school, not undergrad notorious for it's rules. With that said, any intelligent person regardless of ideology or political opinion is going to know going into it that our medical school is going to share views with the institution that got them their start. I have said this before, but I am EXTREMELY liberal. My dean is aware of this, the director of admission is aware of this, and many of my faculty are aware of this...it has not negatively impacted me thus far and I do not believe it will in the future. In fact, I am not the anomaly in my class. My class is very diverse, many different ideologies and many different political opinions. It took all of us awhile to come out of our shells, and I'll admit a lot of that was probably because some of us didn't know "how we could act." I have several friends who relocated with their spouses...some live with them openly some live separately, some are married some are single, some people drink, some do not...seriously our class is very normal. I have friends in both MD and other DO schools whom I speak with weekly, just to catch up but also to compare notes and honestly I've been really impressed with my school. We have profs I like and some I don't mesh with as well, we have some who pray a lot, some who pray a little, some who pray like they are talking to a friend and some who are more old school. Sometimes, yet it can be a lot, but saying some positive words before an exam doesn't bother me...I tune in if I want and tune out respectfully if I if I don't want to listen. Bottom line no one si going to monitor your drinking unless you are drunk at school...which would be monitored at any school...no one is going to keep tabs on your sex life, and if you want to live with your SO do it! Again, any questions other than what I answered here I'm happy to answer in a PM anytime. I repeat, I am not religious, I am not conservative, and I love my school and my classmates...truly it's been a great year. How restrictive were they on your personal life? I know they have the crazy rules but how strictly were they enforced? Could you not drink at all or have a significant other stay the night with you? Honestly those are the two big ones that would bother me.

are med students really not that fun to hang out with? 😱The school is out in the middle of nowhere. The other 1000 medical schools in Va have already depleted rotation spots at most of the hospitals with any value. This place has many worried. Go somewhere else, aka take a gap, post back, more undergrad, work, etc.
is it out in the middle of nowhere like LMU? how long is the drive from the airport? The school is out in the middle of nowhere. ...Lynchburg has more to do than I thought it would, but I guess it depends on where you are from. In reply to rotations, our faculty has created rotation options all over the country...not just in the region so really, we are going to rotation sites in cities and towns that do not already have them...so not sniping from anyone. The school is out in the middle of nowhere. 10 minutes...we have an airport. 45 to Roanokes airport if you wanna fly in and out of there and 1.5hr to Charlottesville. You can also take the train to Richmond or DC with wifii.....also the town and suburbs together are like 100,000 so it's really not tiny at all.is it out in the middle of nowhere like LMU? how long is the drive from the airport?
how wrong u are. There are some very out spoken students that dont like the school and are willing to share....You aren't going to get an unbiased opinion from any of the students, at least all the ones that post here almost seem to be coached from the administration to only speak good about their school - obviously I don't know that for a fact or anything, it's just what they come off as.
The one thing that has been brought up multiple times is that they do teach that sex during menstruation can cause endometrosis, which isn't accurate.
I am a current student and yes, religious views ARE incorporated into the teaching. We even have a professor who said that the Herpes Virus 1 and 2 have been crossed because of "perverted sex" ...aka oral sex.I'm pretty sure that their religious belief DOES influence their teaching (from http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/lucom-liberty-vs-lmu-dcom.1124016/):
Do not come to this school. If you get in elsewhere, please go there. I am a current student. LUCOM puts up a happy welcoming, tolerant facade...dont believe it. Don't be in awe by Dean Martin and his fancy med school building that he brags about. Just stay away. They do not like controversy and will go to great lengths to shut you up. and Yes...religion IS incorporated into the lectures because most of the professors are religious and are very happy to share their judgemental, biased religious views with you. And if you're not christian, then your fellow classmates will be quietly judging you...assessing your values...as if theirs is better than yours.... would you attend? Why or why not?
What i'm afraid of is that they incorporate religious viewpoints into the medical teaching curriculum and that'd be terrible. Any students from this school can give me an honest opinion on this school's teaching quality?
You are the first I've seen on here. I hope you stick aroundhow wrong u are. There are some very out spoken students that dont like the school and are willing to share....
thanks...i made a lengthy post in my LUCOM current students thread. You are the first I've seen on here. I hope you stick around
Wowwww.I am a current student and yes, religious views ARE incorporated into the teaching. We even have a professor who said that the Herpes Virus 1 and 2 have been crossed because of "perverted sex" ...aka oral sex.
Because she confirms my suspicions. Take it with a grain of salt if you will, but I'm not pretending like I'm not biased here@touchpause13 : just to be fair...what makes you or anyone think @MsCritique is even a real student there and not a troll/LUCOM hater with a new account?
I would say she is not a real student but maybe the friend of someone who does attend. I've been to every lecture and don't remember the herpes thing.Because she confirms my suspicions. Take it with a grain of salt if you will, but I'm not pretending like I'm not biased here
I've been to almost every lecture and I have the professor on my audio recording saying perverted sex...shall I upload it here? I've seen your posts on here weiner... you are clearly a lucom sympathizer.I would say she is not a real student but maybe the friend of someone who does attend. I've been to every lecture and don't remember the herpes thing.
Post it.I've been to almost every lecture and I have the professor on my audio recording saying perverted sex...shall I upload it here? I've seen your posts on here weiner... you are clearly a lucom sympathizer.
post the lecture then.Weiner knows that I am a lucom student...or else he would not have emailed saying not to lie about "our" school. He just wants to twist my image...to make me sound like a troll.
embed the videoHow do I go about posting a recording on here? What formats are accepted?
Asd and weiner are baiting me to post copyright material which could lead to an investigation by the school and have me expelled. I don't have to prove who I am. U have the choice to either believe me or not.
I didn't think they had a DO/PhD program, so... yeah...Are you a DO/PhD student at LUCOM?
Yes I amAre you a DO/PhD student at LUCOM?
Anyone can try to dispel my identity as a lucom student... it just shows the extent that these supporters will go to shut others up... to keep the criticism out and the eery positivity out.
We don't have a DO/phd dual degree program yet.Are you a DO/PhD student at LUCOM?
Alright, sorry... as much as I may want to believe that LUCOM is a big bad scary monster of religiosity, I cannot believe you if you say you're part of a program that doesn't exist. The only way to irrefutably show that I am a lucom student is to post a pic of my badge, which I don't plan on doing.
