Japanese and Philo. w/ Asian Studies minor.

Creative writing, yes it's actually a major here at Vanderbilt. My advice to you, which is what I received from those in the medical profession, is to simply major in whatever you really want to. Of course, I took just as much bio / chem / etc in my first three years as the next pre-med (maybe more?), but my senior year has been great because I'm studying what I really enjoy.
As long as your scores (GPA / MCAT) are good, Med school interviewers have loved talking about "non traditional" majors because they want to know why we're so passionate about these other things. We stick out, in a good way.
I've been accepted to a number of schools already, and my impression has been that your major really doesn't matter- neither in a good or bad way. Your scores, understanding of / motivations for pursuing medicine, and interview are the real factors. Therefore, why not chose to major in something you like- don't let your senior year suck because you're finishing a major that is "right for the pre-med track".

All you humanities majors are taking the easy road. . . maybe I should conform. Im a chemistry Major. I am still wondering if anyone has found out if Humanity majors have higher acceptance rates.

I don't know what the acceptance rates are, but I wouldn't say we're taking the "easy road." We can all agree that there's no such thing as the easy road to med school. While I fully appreciate the science majors out there (my best friend and roomate is one of "you"), I would like to defend us "humanities majors".
Like I said, I'm majoring in creative writing, so, for my application to be competative, I had to nearly complete a Chem Major (2 classes shy of that) and a Bio minor (1 class shy) along with my Upper Level English classes. In effect, we don't have the schedule room to take "easy road" intro level classes to fill our semesters because we're only / always taking both advanced sciences for preparation and advanced humanities for our major.
Again, my utmost respect for everyone out there who is trying to get into med school via any major- and I'll be tipping one back tonight for all of us who have been accepted: next year we won't be "the English kid" and "the Bio robot". We'll be M1's PERIOD! Let's get Wasted!!!

Economics

So I don't know why you think humanities majors are taking the easy road...
They are difficult in different ways.
What's wrong with getting a major in a subject that you find interesting? Especially if the rest of your life will be devoted to science.

I would think that if someone had the rocks to start throwing crap out here that reeks of academic snobbery, they might not want to admit in their profile that they attend Appalachian St. University.

While we're asking questions, how's the acceptance rate from Appalachian St.? I'm still wondering if anyone has found out if it has higher acceptance rates than other schools.

Wait, am I generalizing too much....? You mean that the school you're attending doesn't necessarily say anything about your intelligence, work ethic, or chance of getting in to med school? Guess what: Neither does you major.

I hardly think it is an easy road. If you are a humanities major you are taking difficult upper level classwork in your major PLUS all the pre-med classes.....that is not easy.

Plus, what is easy for one is not easy for another person- just because something doesn't have math involved doesn't make it any less easy, there are a lot of people I know who find chemistry quite easy for them.

I am a Zoology/Biomedical Science major. I personally find my major easier than English! LOL

English is NOT an easy major. My sister majored in English, and it was loaded with memorization--her tests would be a grip of quotes, and you had to name who said id in which novel, and the context and significance of the quote. F that noise.

The biggest thing that humanities majors have working on their side (or against them, depending on your temperament) in the BS factor. You can almost always get away with a great deal of BS, if you try. I guess that means that people who think that humanities majors are easy are admitting their willingness to employ BS as an academic skill, because if you don't BS, any major can become difficult.
