Would you go into medicine if you had to pay to be a doctor?

  • Yes, and I'd let random janitorial staff violate me at their leisure.

  • Yes, though I'd want to pay more than $25,000 per year.

Time for a new poll, as I don't think the minium wage question goes far enough. Afterall, you are supposed to go into medicine because you love it, not because you will be paid.

So the question is: If you received no salary and had to pay the government say $25,000 a year to be a doctor, would you still do it? The $25,000 would go towards providing healthcare for the underpriviliged. Such as yourself.

If you answer "no", you are a heartless piece of crap.

so you are supposed to be broke, hungry, homeless and still provide health care for other people???

doctors are paid too much

I'm glad the internet is virtually limitless because if it wasn't, we really wouldn't have space for these kinds of threads (the minimum wage thread was bad enough).🙄

I will see your 25 G's and raise you a kidney. That's right! I will sell a kidney to help finance extra payments to the underpriviliged.

I'd pay 1 dollar a minute to work as a physician because it's my true calling.

screw that. i would go to wall street. or work in a restaurant 🙂

...No isn't even an option...

Someone should start a thread named: If you were going to be bitten daily in the face by a rabid dog while being poked with a sharp stick in the kidney, would you still go into medicine?

And we should all be really really judgy of the people who say no.

umm, no.

regardless of how much of a calling people insist it is, medicine is still a job. paying 25k a year is obviously not conducive to supporting my family.

And you wouldn't have to learn how to make empathetic statements during patient histories because you'd be at least as bad off as every patient and thus brimming with empathy. You'd make the best history-taking doctor ever.

Premeds from 6 years ago were snide little gits, huh? I like it!

I like to think Prometheus from Greek mythology would be the original doctor. As the eagle tore out his liver for the hundredth time, he cried "Alas, I only have one liver to give to the medically underserved. If only I could do cutting edge research on the inequalities between gods and men, then I would reach my true calling: medicine."

Yeah, something like that.
