Hello, pre-dents! Thanks in advance for stumbling on my thread.

I'm currently a freshman in NC. My Fall semester sucked (GPA < 3 and a C in Orgo I), but my Spring semester is looking better. I should get around a 3.2 or higher by the end of the year. (I took Orgo in my freshman year because I tested out of Basic Bio and Gen Chem, but I didn't bother going through with Orgo II because I was trying to see if pre-pro was what I wanted and to mitigate the damage if it was due to college being new.)

My parents are moving to WA and have offered me to go with them. I'm not enjoying my college right now, so I'm really debating it. I could get into a CC readily and get admission requirements to go into a 4 year institution.

So, I really have three questions:

Should I stay in NC or go to WA?
Should I stay in my four-year or go to the two-year and transfer?
Should I take the pre-requisites that I tested out of?

I appreciate any and all advice! Thanks for reading. ^^

can't you just transfer to a school in wisconsin and take the pre reqs there? A 4yr that is. Marquette has a dental school.

^ Well, I could certainly try to, but it would be difficult financially to afford OOS tuition for a year. And due to the less-than-stellar location we are in the state, I'm at least two hours away from a four year institution so I'd have to tack housing costs on top of it.

Another concern of mine is if I would be accepted to a four year as a transfer with only around a 3.2 GPA.

Thank you for posting!

im pretty sure most schools would still take you as a transfer student witha 3.2. They typically have a minimum requirement for the college within the university you want to transfer to. For example, i know a friend who was going to WashU, hated it, did really bad, transferred to U of I engineering with 3.1 gpa. Their minimum requirement for transfer students i think was a 2.9 at that time so he didn't have any issues getting in at all. Just do a little research. From the sounds of it though, you will definitely have to make some sacrifices in some manner.

Btw, i would probably do the pre reqs again. If your confident, they should be an easy gpa booster for you. If you don't at least be sure to take some upper level bio and chem classes (ex: genetics/anatomy,biochemistry, physical chemistry, analytical, etc) to show that you are competent at a college level in them. Your major will probably have a good bit of impact on which classes to take.

I'll look around, but I'll still need to figure out how to pay for a year of OOS tuition. ^^

I may only have to pay a semester of OOS since my dad's been there since November. So it'd be a year in time for the Spring semester.

That and the only way I make some credit cuts is with my AP test scores. xD

Hope I read this right, look into CC credit more closely because some dental schools do not accept any and you'd be shooting yourself in the foot if you took all these credits and they don't count. For other schools they accept up to a certain max and after that the CC credits don't count. Could end up costing you more money/time in the long run. Just look into it (ADEA guide is a great source as it lists this info in each school's bio). Best bet is going to a 4-yr institution where the quality of your education (not by my standards but in the eyes of d-schools) cannot be refuted. Best of luck!
