Midwestern is a private school, so unfortunately no in state love from them in that regard. You'll want to ace those science prerequisites to boost your GPA.

Yea I’m not super interested in Midwestern anymore, they don’t sound like too good a fit for me anyway. My top choice if I can swing OOS admission is Illinois!

I’m certainly no expert, but as a fellow applicant with a liberal arts degree I would recommend applying to schools that prioritize science gpa and last 45 over cumulative. Another poster gave me this advice last cycle and it was super helpful. I had a difficult time raising my cumulative gpa (just because of the sheer number of liberal arts classes I took in undergrad and did so-so in). So I focused my attention on maintaining a competitive science gpa and last 45 instead. Some schools that look primarily at these stats are Minnesota, Iowa, and UC Davis (there are more I’m just blanking at the moment)… Assuming you still have a lot of prerequisite left to complete, you’re actually in a good position!

Also, have you considered U of Arizona? I see you’re an AZ resident.

Thank you for this! I have residency in CA as well as AZ and would love to go to Davis but I don’t have a research background at all and they seem to prioritize that! I will be starting a masters program in microbiology and cell science next summer but it’s non thesis so i figured it wouldn’t exactly help in that regard either. I am considering UofA purely for the IS and the shorter program, I just don’t REALLY want to stay in Arizona, but if all else fails I feel like I could swing an admission there

I actually didn’t think Davis was possible for me either but I just received an interview invite from them! I’ll send you my stats via DM.

I definitely liked Illinois! Would be willing to answer any questions about the program. With that being said, I was originally slated to graduate with 282k in debt including the accruing interest and considering I lived on 15k a year in Champaign. Something to certainly consider if you're accepted to a cheaper school.

I *highly* recommend applying to Arizona as your in state program. Spending 100k+ more for the same exact degree is not worth it. I wish I had gotten into my in state now that I'm paying a mortgage and student loans.
