Hi, I will be going on rotations this May!

But I am wondering if any of you out there have done a rotation with the Indian Health Service and would like to share your experience.

A spot opened up for me for one in AZ and I'm still debating if I'd wanna do it.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but its a similar topic. If anyone has done a rotation with the Bureau of Prisons, please share. I am interested in both IHS and BOP.

Oh, where in Arizona? 🙂

I have done a rotation at IHS in Arizona, and I loved every moment of it. Everyone I know who has done an IHS rotation loved it. When I was still a P1 I heard P4s saying that IHS is how ambulatory care pharmacy is supposed to be practiced, and it's true. It's so nice to have access to the charts, and be able to manage therapy, and have a real, full sit-down counseling session with EVERY patient, even refills. And the patients were all so nice, and patient, and never complained about wait times, and there are no copayment issues involved, and you have ample opportunity to use your clinical judgement... I strongly recommend IHS rotations to everyone.

Bringing this thread back to life - I have an IHS rotation in August - anyone else care to share their experience?

Any areas of knowledge I should be focusing on (my preceptor said CKD, diabetes, and RA) - any others?

Haven't been on here in a long time. Congrats on getting the rotations you wanted! Did you end up getting the Warm Springs site, Salem site or out of state? I spoke with a guy who just finished up an ambulatory rotation at Warm Springs and he said it was one of the best experiences he has had in pharmacy school.

Only a couple months of didactic schooling left...must be exciting. You rotating through one of local hospitals: good sam, providence, legacy, sw medical, ohsu? The psych rotation should be cool, is that local?

The IHS rotation is out of state - our affiliation agreement with Warm Springs isn't setup yet 😡 Most of my instate rotations will be down in roseburg, at Mercy Medical and the VA (like 4 of them).

Just curious - Ever been to Roseburg? I haven't - and with a population of 20K - I've got a feeling it isn't the most jumping location 😎

Ahhh...Roseburg. I used to drive through it to go to Coos Bay every year. In the middle of nowhere with a couple of sawmills. You could always hook up with a logger's daughter!

And Warm Springs...I still drive through that little Nation every year. There is a Casino and beautiful Deschutes River runs through it. At least it's not too far from Bend and Sisters... great golf!! Wait...only between June through September..

Roseburg is a pretty dull town for most part unless you have a quad or bike to hit the dunes with on the weekends. I am sure you will stay busy, so the boring town won't be a problem.
