Okay- hi 🙂 So, I have applied to all the Chicago schools, all St. Louis (missouri), and now I'm looking for some more midwest schools that are good for me to apply for? I am an IL resident if that helps- help me! 🙂

I am an undergrad at Wash U- I just want schools in an 5-6 hour radius... help please 🙂

Thanks!

Indiana Univeristy....if you have ties to the state besides being a resident of IL.

Well, you said 'Chicago schools' but didn't mention southern illinois in Springfield.

5-6 hours from Chcago or St Louis? If St Louis then Columbia MO, Meharry, TN, U of TN at Memphis, Vanderbilt

I think that this all depends on your stats. If your MCAT is high, then you can apply to the state schools surrounding MO and IL. If it is not so high, then don't bother. I received prompt rejections from Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

I think that with a mid-high-ish MCAT of around 32 will be helpful.

In terms of Med schools within an 8 hour radius of STL

Indiana (Indy, 5 hour)
Kansas (Kansas City, 5 hour)
Mizzou (2 hours)
Wash U
SLU
Creighton (8 hours)
Iowa (6 hours)
SIU (2 hours)
Kentucky
Michican (Unknown travel time)
Michigan State (Unknown Travel time)
Ohio State (8 hours)
Chicago Schools: Illinois, Loyola, Finch, Northwestern,
U of Chicago (5 hours)
MCW (8 hours)

Again, unless you have over a 32+ MCAT, think carefully about applying to the state schools I mentioned (except for the IL ones).

Good luck. I will be at Creighton next year.

Definately apply to Iowa. They reserve 30% of their spots for Out-of-state apllicants. I like it there anyway and I'm not from the Midwest.

Don't forget the osteopathic schools!

Midwestern is excellent (and has a campus in Arizona also. Sunnier and newer).

Kirksville is spectacular, and is a very reasonable drive from Chicago.

try minnesota-twin cities. its about 7 hours via car from chicago

I've actually driven to Chicago (from Minneapolis) many times and I have made it in under 5 hours... 4.5 hours is my best time, but I was also going about 90 mph.

Isn't out-of-state for MN $40k or something like that? I would apply anyway, since it's relatively close. I shouldn't talk, seeing as how my school's tuition is ~$33. 😉

princessbabe, I'm also an IL res, and I applied to all 7 allo schools in IL (even SIU), then MCW and UW (my alma mater), SLU, and Mizzou. I also applied to a few on the coasts, but I had the most success in these schools. Coming out of WashU should be great for you - I've been impressed with the people I've met along the way from there. Good luck!

Out of state is closer to $35K, but evryone who gets accepted gets the in state rate of $27K (yea, even in-state tuition is high, one of the highest in the country)

Silly me, I must have been thinking UIC for out-of-state at $40k. Oh, well. 😉
