Mmmmm...got UCSD today. What does this late invitation mean? Somebody cancelled??? :laugh:

So I actually rotated at JH Bayview as well for several of my rotations including Medicine. The patient population is quite different from the one at Downtown Hopkins as they are mostly elderly lower/middle class caucasians who live in the Dundalk/Highlandtown area, often veterans or retired steelworkers. There is also a large Hispanic population, so being able to speak medical spanish is a plus.

The hospital runs quite differently from Downtown Hopkins - two interns and one senior resident take call together as a team at Bayview. The hospital itself is also many fewer beds. The Attendings at Bayview are generally good (often trained at Downtown Hopkins), and the teaching is excellent. In my personal opinion I think that the training may not quite be as rigorous as that at Downtown Hopkins. This may be a generalization, but I think that many Hopkins Med students who know the two programs would consider Bayview a great place to do a prelim year, but if they are applying as Categorical applicants, would apply to the downtown program.

Their Geriatric program is fabulous, by the way (probably by virtue of the patient population) so if you are interested in that, this a would be a great program.

As those of you who applied to Bayview know, the medicine residencies at Downtown Hopkins and Bayview are essentially completely separate, with the exception of the Cardiac Care Unit, which is staffed by residents from downtown as well as those out at Bayview. Strangely enough, the rest of the hospital services (OB/GYN, Pathology, Surgery, E Med) are staffed with rotating residents from programs based at Downtown Hopkins.

Good luck, hope to see some of you at interviews as well.

So what's up w/ MGH? I seem to remember somewhere on their web-site that they tell you when you are coming to interview. So it looks like they wait until you have all of your interviews scheduled and then they blow it apart.

I've heard from BWH, and I think a few others have as well. Say, does anyone have any input on Stanford and UCSF? I'm debating about whether or not to make the long trip to Cali, and was wondering if it would be worth it?

Utah looks like a beautiful place with a very nice program, but I am starting to have to decide which programs to cut. I applied to 19 programs because I'm couples matching, and so far I have 14 interviews, with 4 programs still out. There just isn't the time to go to all of them, and I'm going to see a lot of places as part of a bigger trip that I might not have otherwise gone on. I can't really combine Utah with any other program and I'm not sure the time is available (not to mention the money). It's looking like I might not go to the UCSD interview either, for the same reason.

This whole process kind of sucks and the decisions I'm being forced to make are no fun. At least it's easier than applying to med school!
 
Finally got U of Chicago, but of course they don't have dates available when I'll be there for Rush and NWU. Oh well...

Anybody know if Baylor-Houston is done giving out interviews? I know they send out rejections but I haven't got one of those yet either? Feels like it is getting kind of late.

I did hear from UCSF/SFGH program last week, unfortunately they have relatively few interview dates and I don't think I will able to go.

Others...heard from BID Monday, MGH yesterday, Yale today. It's been a good week!

Interviewed at Michigan this week--VERY impressive, hard to detect any drawbacks whatsoever in their program, EVERYBODY was enthusiastic and intelligent, I'll be ranking them very high. 👍
 
20/25-Maine Medical Center today. I don't think I need to repeat at this point which one I am REALLY waiting for..😀
