many of the posts on this website are dedicated to providing a mirror for people who can't seem to see themselves in any sort of objective manner (like the prevalent "here are my stats, what are my chances" threads or the "help me decide where to go to med school" ones). here's to the herd! mooooooo!

Thank you so much for your genuine replies. I really appreciate it. Thanks for realizing that a somewhat high MCAT score doesn't exempt a person from the same worries and insecurities that everyone else has.

I'll be deleting this thread shortly, but I'd like to leave it up long enough to thank the people who were nice enough to give their advice.

here you go

if you're dumb enough to not realize that a score of 38 puts you in the top 1-2%, then i just don't know what to say to you. oh wait, yeah i do: end yourself.

OP, You start the thread with "I'm not trying to be a snot...." Well, you obviously know you are being a snot by telling everyone your MCAT scores. Have you ever looked at "average" MCAT scores for Baylor? If yours are several points ABOVE average, wouldn't you think that you have a good shot? I could maybe understand if you had insecurities about other parts of your application like a complete lack of any EC's, experience, etc. but your MCAT score? Give me a break.

Sorry everyone, I just get really teed off at crap like this. Have a nice day!😀

this will get you banned, man.
regardless of the inanity of the original post and the inability of this person to gauge the top 1-2% of MCAT scores (hey- chicky, check out your percentile. 🙄 please. common sense much?), this vile spout is just uncalled for and even in poorer taste than the OP.

What was this thread about?

let me guess, you failed intro psychology.

I agree with Goodmonkey, that is inappropriate. I don't care how much you dislike the thread or the OP, not on. Anyway, to the OP, I realize that you are concerned but there is really no need to be. You upset a lot of people on here because that score is great and people would kill for that score. It tends to upset a lot of people when you say you are thinking of taking it again, regardless of your reasons. Just try to improve the rest of your application if you really think a 38 isn't good enough. My 0.02 cents.

I can sympathize a little......

I'm an engineer and the PS was my strong area (12-14 consistantely). On the real MCAT I was tired from not sleeping and whigged out a little on the first section because I had 4 psg's on solutions chem (easily the worste subject for me) You know: "crap A goes into a solution of 5% crap B. That's mixed with 15 billion unkowns with the results shown in the table. Tell us what the evolved gas and crysaline precipitate is in step 28 and 42, respectively, of the flow diagram". Yuck!!!! I took that garbage 12 yrs ago in HS and hated it then.

The whole section seemed as if it were made with me in mind.... screwing me up that is. I got a 9. My overall was a 32 and I really pissed my wife and family off when they were so excited and all I could do was mope becase of my "dissapointing" PS score. The flamers on this site are right (to some respect). Get over this! The MCAT sucks and you never have to do it again (unless you like this kind of thing). I too, would not wish the MCAT on my enemies. It finally hit me a few days later. So what if I'm personally dissapointed. I got more than I needed and there are no prizes, to my knowlege, for getting a higher score than you need. Just get a seat in a US medical school and feel fortunate and proud. I am........ finally.

I normally do not reply to posts asking for advice re: retaking the MCAT or "what are my chances?" threads. There are plenty of members who enjoy dispensing their sage advice and of course many members to insult and flame the poster. However, this thread has my interest.

As many of those who have already replied have posted, a score of 38 is in the top 1-2%. This is what you called a "somewhat high" MCAT score. In addition, you refer to your "sub-par" grades and bemoan the fact that your BCPM GPA is only a 3.84. I see that you are also grateful to those who understand that " a somewhat high MCAT score doesn't exempt a person from the same worries and insecurities that everyone else has".

Yes, applying to med school is stressful for everyone and there are no guarantees; however, please realize that applicants with truly borderline statistics have much more to worry and feel insecure about. Members here are immature to insult and flame you, but please reread your post and see how crazy it is to be asking for retake advice with a 38. If this score doesn't elate you and make you proud of your achievement, then please realize you are judging yourself much to harshly.

It concerns me that you are so dissatisfied and insecure despite the excellence of your stats. Life is about progress not perfection! To seriously think of retaking the exam when you are in the top 1% already shows a lack of common sense and an unhealthy drive for perfection. If you can't be confident in yourself after achieving such GPA and MCAT results and instead focus on the Calculus which has kept you from a 4.0 and the difference between a 38 and 40 MCAT, you may find that this lack of self-confidence and perfectionist drive may creep into your interviews. Some of us are born with a natural perfectionist slant to our personality, others develop it from their parents relentless pushing.

Instead of worrying about your MCAT score, please reread your origin post and look at it objectively. You will never attain perfection and no one expects you to. Please give yourself a pat on the back for all the things you have achieved and figure out why you are still insecure. Believe me, that is what you need to do to "compensate" for your "sub-par" GPA.

Well said bean bean, LittleMissCrnky, you otta take this advice. 🙂

i still don't get it.

Oh my god.......you oughta be ashamed of yourself. I thought I was dissapointed. I mean 38.....hmmmm.....yea i guess you could always apply to the carribean. Yea go right ahead and take MCAT more and keep taking it....dont settle for anything below 45 and dont listen to anyone.

As far as this goes, the less people like you that apply the better for us official averagers or low MCATers.

BTW, next time think before you talk or write stupid threads like this!! what the hell are you thinking creating an uproar. 😡 :meanie:

oh yea......uhmmmm.....did you by any chance use crack b4 writing this up!! MY GOD :wow:

Disenchanted, why are you bringing this thread back from the dead?

A higher MCAT means you'll become a better doctor and you can make more money with a higher MCAT, which equals a better looking mate, which equals better looking kids, which gives them better opportunities in life since they'll be so much better looking...which means they will have more chances to become doctors and get 45's on their MCATS.

So you see, do it again, do it for your kids; how your life turns out from mate to money to kids all are riding on you getting as close to 45 as possible...good luck.😉

P.S. I love these threads...makes me feel good about my low MCAT score...b/c i have activities and people outside of this process...befriend your Kaplan or Princeton instructor, maybe he/she can save you from yourself...😀

This is hilarious!

its always fun to wander back over to the pre-allo forum for a good laugh every once in a while. either way, to the OP, every time i see something like this it makes me realize why there are people out there with huge MCATS who cannot make it past the interview and end up re-applying. so what am i rambling on about? my take on this is that if you really think you need to re-take the MCAT because you got just below 40, what i would be more concerned about is setting off on the interview track because there is where you are going to find yourself out of luck. social skills go a long way once you get an interview and with a personality like the one you seem to be projecting you might find this the toughest part of getting into medical school. cheers and lighten up.

Oh my god. There is nothing like a pile-on on a 5-month-old post. 🙄

Seriously, please PLEASE let this thread die.

Guys,

I think we've been duped. Look at the screen name, look at the number of posts (first or second post was this one), and look at the thread related to the name.

It's obviously someone f*cking around. No one is that stupid or arrogant to whine about getting a 38.

Coops

I want a 40 too....

j/k people... well actually I wouldn't mind it ploping down on me, but it wouldn't be worth taking it again.

I have no idea if the OP was joking... but, I can understand the question being asked. I got the same score and basically the same GPA and I am living proof that its not necessarily enough to even get interviews at prestigous schools... and Im as normal as any applicant Ive met.

So, while I was doing everything else for my app (ECs, classes, etc...) I might wonder about a retake and ask for others opinions. I agree with everyone that it would be wrong to retake... but I might not have been sure about that 1 yr ago.

I really dont understand the compulsion some of you have to continually post how ridiculous people's threads are... ignore them if you dont like them.

I really wasn't trying to mock her. I too have MCAT and GPA scores like her's. I admit that I haven't applied yet...but right now my focus is on EC's and LORs. My application might be too numbers driven so right now I'm sweating about everything else.
