Yes guys I'm gonna give in to them! Please don't argue about it being a waste of money. Yes i may not be rich but i don't mind spending money on this if i can get a really good score. BUT i have not taken organic chemistry yet and will be taking it my junior year. I plan on taking the DAT the summer of my junior year going into my senior year. However i want to take the kaplan course going into my junior year coming out of my sophmore year. Organic chemistry is the last subject i need to take for the DAT and i believe that by taking the kaplan course a year before taking the DAT i can prepare for organic because i will learn some of the material in it and hopefully get an A in both 1 and 2. I want a really great score. Is it a "waste of money" by taking the kaplan class a year before and take the DAT the summer right after my junior year end?? I feel that this way i can get a really great score.

It is a pretty inefficient way to go about studying and an unnecessarily expensive one. Kaplan is exactly what you make of it in terms of how you use their resources and the practice material. Simply attending the class and doing a basic level of prep guarantees very little. Regardless of what material you choose you must pour in hours.

Work your way through Pushing Electrons by Weeks. Go run through chads orgo videos multiple times and do his practice quizzes. Then work your way through Orgo in the DAT Destroyer. You'll have a great jump start on your Orgo classes.

I took Kaplan DAT course and I know you don't wanna hear that it is waste of money. However it is the truth.. It is waste of money whether you take it a year before or not.. Nothing in my DAT was comparable to their course and it's definitely not a factor in getting high score.. If you insist on taking it, then taking it before you study for organic won't be useful at all. The course offers many questions that serve as review not teaching method. I'd say start with Chad videos and other resources then do Kaplan. Just my opinion.. Good luck!!

I took the course and it is truly not worth the money. I did not feel prepared at all after taking it and ended up not taking the DAT for a few more years. During that time, I learned about SDN and found some study plans. Chads videos, destroyer, boot camp, etc are all way more effective and MUCH cheaper.

I highly suggest seeing if you can get refunded.

I paid the $1,200 for the in-person DAT review course and overall, I feel you can spend your money more wisely. For me, it ended up taking me 2.5 hours round-trip to get to the classes, so after about 2 or 3, I felt it wasn't worth it to go to the in-person sessions and finished my review with a combination of their on-line sessions (which I was able to swap for some of the in-person sessions) and my own independent review. I feel that the in-person review sessions are no more helpful than the on-line sessions, and that the on-line sessions, aside from the PAT section, are not three times as valuable as, say, Chad's videos (which I'd probably use instead if I had to do it again, since it's so much cheaper). Just my 2cents.

Especially for you, I wouldn't recommend taking the Kaplan course unless you've taken the subjects it will cover.

Seriously don't do it. Listen to all of us who have taken the DAT.

I'm confused by your post. What's your point?
You've decided to take the course, knowing that people will tell you not to do it because they have already experienced it. But you don't want people to talk you out of it either.
You can't buy a higher DAT score through Kaplan. Use the available resources with proven success, put in the hard work, save your money, get a higher score.
Good luck.

If you want to get ahead for organic chemistry, then go subscribe to chad's videos on college organic chemistry and also watch free organic videos on khanacademy. Watching and studying these before you take the actual class will make your life ALOT easier.

However, if the kaplan class make you stay focused in your studies and you have to money to spend, then I dont see why you shouldnt.

Well i'm going to argue that it is a waste of money lol. It really did nothing for me. They teach you basic sciences that would get you a 17 or 18 at best on the DAT. They emphasize test taking strategies over material. Again, waste of money.

don't spend anymore money on kaplan than you have to. follow other users' study guides. buy their recommended resources (bootcamp, destroyer, qvault, crack the DAT, and chads video). DAT is like playing blackjack. there are many versions of that tests similar knowledge. however u just have to use the knowledge to answer as fast as you can. the science knowledge required on DAT isnt that hard. you dont need kaplan.

Kaplan's DAT resources are generic, surface-detailed, and awful for the real thing. Do not invest $1200 in that program.

Chad's Videos, Crack DAT software, DAT Destroyer's book series, CliffsAP Bio, and DAT Bootcamp all cost less and are immensely more valuable to your studies.

You will never see someone score 22AA+ and post "Wow, I am so glad I took the Kaplan Classroom Course!" You just don't. The folks crushing the DAT are not using Kaplan.

Listen to thebign1989, this advice is gold:

Now, in regards to this...

For less than $50 you can watch recorded o-chem lectures from one of the best lecturers ever -- Chad. Chad's videos have excellent o-chem videos (and o-chem quizzes) that will give you an idea of what o-chem will be all about and what to expect on the DAT. Not only will you save a ton of money but you will be exposed to superior quality of lecturing/material.

Will the post qualify for a substantial course discount?

I didn't crush the DAT but I used the Kaplan Blue Book and got a 22 😛

But anywho, don't take the course. You'll get far more out of just studying by yourself.

Don't take the course. Use that money on other valuable resources- Chad's videos, Destroyer books, Crack DAT PAT/Reading, Bootcamp, Topscore, etc. I stopped going to my Kaplan classes after 3 of them...biggest waste of time

Sorry to hijack this thread but will the 2012 DAT+Math Destroyer be good enough or should I buy the 2015 version?
Also all I have is AP Cliff Bio, Chads DAT Videos and Quizzes, and Crack DAT software. Is this enough? Someone suggested bootcamp to top it off.

2012 would probably be fine if you can track that version down
