got my first rejection today...and hopefully the last and only one...it's from NOVA.....i don't wanna go into details of my stats, but 19 is the lowest on my DAT, with 3.5+ GPA, 2 engineering degrees, one is a Masters, bunch of research/teaching/voluntereering/shadowing experience....it HURTS so much...although nova is not my #1 choice...but it still hurts....man hurts...they don't even give me an interview...i'll call them on monday! the only thing i can think of is that i applied a little late...but i thought they interview until march or something.

Maybe they thought you were too good for them and would turn them down if you got accepted to another school. I do know they ask you to list the schools you applied too so maybe they thought you would be a better fit somewhere else...just a thought

as a side note, do you have all the pre-req completed?

yeah, i've completed all the pre-reqs and i'm taking some more upper-level courses...of course most people here apply more than one school. that letter scared the heck out of me...can't wait for my UNC interview.

BTW, they didn't even say why...$50 is not worth a simple explanation? for those who got rejections from LLU, at least they tell you why. i'm going nuts...

edit...

the letter says..."...We express our regrets that it was not possible to accept you for admission at this time."

can they say a little bit nicer...?

stop caring and move on...life's too short...

i wish to move on....but it's easier say than done...just got home from an interview....and there, on my table, the thin letter from Nova.....i don't have any more wine left...stores already closed....i just glue to this SDN then

man this is way too funny. i wouldn't be too worried about NOVA if i was you.

like others have said, your stats may have been too good for them and they thought you won't take their acceptance anyways.

just think of it that way. you are too good for NOVA!

Incidentally, maybe this can be a fun thread topic:

What do you do with your rejection letters?

Let me start:

1) Shred it and use it as your cat's litter box liner. 😀

collect them.

when you get to dental school and finish off very well, you look at those and laugh at the schools who passed on you.

I actually saved everything I have ever recieved from a dental school (good or bad stuff). I think it might be cool to look back at all of those letters etc 20 years from now.

I haven't heard from NOVA since I sent my secondary application 3 months ago. Should I call them?

i called them a few weeks ago, the lady told me that Ms. Zarrett is the only one screening the applications and she said that they got twice the number of applicants compared to last year and it may take longer to process.
I read the letter over again...there it says..."those selected represent the combined judgment of the numbers of the Committee." i guess for those who are NOT selected, decision is made by just a single lady...she could be having a bad day?

this is not really funny...as i mentioned, i applied a little late, all my interviews are after dec. 1, except one in late november. i haven't got any acceptance yet and the first letter was a rejection...it's very scary out there...can't believe how hard i've worked to get to this point...Medicine anybody? just j/k.

I think you have her first boyfriend's name. 😡

Mard,

I was very upset to hear about your NOVA rejection. I hope you find some strength to go on, and I know you will have an awesome interview at UNC.
Your stats are great, and you seem like a very nice person. I am sure you will get in somewhere, hopefully at UNC.
Please let me know if you need any advice before your interview.
Keep your chin up and good luck!

Tom:

I burnt all of my ding letters and, again, I sent all of the schools that denied me a hate letter letting them know what a horrible decision they had made. Hah, that would be the way to go. No ding letters yet here 🙂

First NYU, now NOVA...getting into dental school this year is a beeeeyatch.

Like we've all said before, the admissions process makes NO sense sometimes.

That's why, I suppose, there really isn't a "safe" application.

Nobody is promised admissions into anywhere. So the next time somebody tells you how easy it is to get into dental school... flip them the bird? 😀

Who knows what the heck NOVA is looking for. They denied a superior applicant, like mard, and they denied an average DAT score with better than average GPAs like me. Hmmmm....... Oh well. Their loss. I've moved on!

Gavin,

It requires a combination of a bird and a full moon!

mard,

Give it a few days and you'll be out of denial. I was pretty bummed this week. I'm 0 for 5 so far, but I don't think I could be happier in general. Refine your gameplan and send in the cavalry...directly.

I will be at Nova next Friday for my interview. Nova is my top choice out of state school. Can't wait. Hope they'll give me a chance there as Case did.

Hey guys, I'm bummed to hear all the denial letters that you all received from Nova. I guess it's a good thing that Nova Dental wasn't your first choices. I can only imagine if it was. Good luck on all your applications at other dental schools.

Larry, I'm excited to meet another Pre-dent from SDN! Are you ready for Friday? Just so you know, during your interview, you're required to do the following:

do at least 50 push-ups within one minute
sew a pair of ripped pants
and lastly, be able to carry a conversation in Spanish for a minute

Alright, maybe just be yourself and have fun with us....you'll love it here! See you soon, my man!

Andy

I think I'm going to take my rejection letters, change the name on them and mail them to Mard and see how many cool threads get started here on SDN!!! Just kidding with ya...... Really though, you have absolutely nothing to worry about with your background and scores. I am in a very similar situation to you. I have 2 degrees in Mech Eng, worked a few years, taught some upper level engineering classes, have published papers while in school and at my job....then decided to be a dentist. Since then, I went back to school to get prereq's....now I'm doing the upper level science just like you. You have slightly better scores/gpa though. Only leg up I had was that I applied in July. If you did, you'd already be in somewhere....no doubt. Further, I have no doubt you'll get in somewhere high on your list of choices! Best of luck to you..although you don't need it!
