I'm trying to practice reading published articles but...

i think you are wasting your time. i would only recommend this to someone who has 1+ year to study. AAMC 11's bio is very good representation of the new trend in BS. Spend time on practice material instead of reading research article. There are plenty of companies who publish good research-based BS passages. TPR's science workbook, TBR's bio passages in their books, Kaplan's section tests are excellent practice material.

I already will have done both. (TPR and TBR). I have 2 months left and I think it is a good life skill to do anyways.

A lot of people recommend to do this as well. :/

You will kill yourself with boredom, most journal articles are not something pre-meds should be able to read comfortably. Those that are selected on the MCAT are chosen because they should be on your level, and are just snippets that are not representative of most articles as a whole. If you just go grabbing articles willy nilly to read, you are going to have a bad time.

AAMC 11 was much much easier compared to the BS I just took in May. There were at least 3 passages on my exam based on recent research studies. The ability to read graphs/data and integrate what you read quickly are crucial. There was nothing else could have prepped me for that BS except for reading more research papers. Though doing research based passages should the best bet due to time constraint, but there are few.

The official guide to the MCAT (published by AAMC) has about 5 good BS practice passages in there. I think it's only $10 with the purchase of an exam.

5 passages doesn't seem to be enough :/.

I saw the new scientist one and it seems those are more like news articles then graphs/interpreting data stuff.

I just want to be prepared for this section :/

forget about articles. if you really want to read something like that, look in to MIT's Technology Review etc

You have 2 months left and you have already used up practice material by TPR AND TBR . Maybe you can then invest into more FL exams thats if you haven't taken them all already. Everybody who scores high always advises to do more practice.good luck!

Nah I'm not done yet, I have 2 months to finish Phase 3 of TBR (I've done 3/10 already) + The entire TPRH SWB+ 4 AAMC's + 1 TBR. (I'll also be volunteering 3 hrs/day and working 1-2 hrs /day on my application. I should be able to put in 5 hrs/day weekdays, and 6-7 hrs/day weekends). I think that 2 months of that is more than enough time to finish my goals so I would rather add in the science journal idea. I think I might buy the GS exams just to do a FL a week to get timing down better (not for diagnostic purposes). I had TBR 1-5 and did the 1st 2, but the other 3 are expiring in 1.5 weeks and I don't want to repay them for the same tests. :/

I feel like I'm pretty bad at analysis of tables/graphs in the Bio section so that is kind of why I want to work on it
:/

oh i see...since you already paid for the TBR exams , then i would suggest just taking the BS section of the remaining TBR exams because they are EXCELLENT practice. If I were you, I would break the other sections too and try to do them one a day in the 1.5 weeks left so I could get my money's worth instead of letting perfectly good material expire without using it all up. This recommendation is only if you think you might not be able to take TBR 3-5 in 1.5 weeks left.

good idea yo, yeah I'll do them separately I guess =]

I'd try PLoS One. Their articles are pithy, cover a range of topics, and (for those of us who no longer have institutional access) free!

There's no point, honestly. There's really nothing out there right now that will prepare you for the new style. The prep companies are going to need time to adapt, but then, they will have to do so again for 2015.
