I'm an IMG with master's degree in IM at my home country my steps 1&2 scores 240+&250+ respectively with no attempts. I'm thinking seriously to apply for peds at the next match as it always has been my main passion in medicine. will my past IM experience be a bonus or an obstacle in my application?

Probably a bonus (you already have a residency under your belt and can account for the time since graduation from med school), you will get asked why the switch. Have a good and polished answer, maybe a case that touched you or some heartfelt reason

I suppose since peads is traditionally less competitive they wont feel like you are a second choice. ie if you had a neurosurg residency in your home country and lots of publications and a CV that screamed neurosurg peads ppl may feel like they are a back up.. seems like thats not the case
