AND then...
Does anyone else have to get like $300 worth of immunizations, test and titers done for pharmacy school? I needed to submit proof of vaccination for: measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and tetanus/diphtheria. Then I needed to get a Tb test, then I needed to submit blood for QUANTITATIVE titers for all of the above immunzations (except tetanus) with the actual lab numbers and copies of the lab reports attached. Of course my tetanus was 1 year too old, so I needed that one, then I needed a Tb test, then I needed the titers drawn, then I was good on only 5/6 of the titers so I needed a booster for measles (just an MMR) and now I have to wait 6 weeks and get another quantitative titer drawn for measles. Those who talk about schools wanting a DNA sample are on the right track. Anyone else have the pleasure of going through this? Good thing that I already had my Hep B, or I would be in for a world of pokes...

Wow! You want to know what's strange? There appears to be no such requirement at my school...at least not before our 2nd year summer hospital rotations! Maybe it'll be up to the hospitals we get assigned to. I had a HepB booster (I already had the series before, but I appear to not have developed Ab's to HBV...go figure), Tb Mantoux test, HepC and Rubella titer when I got my paid intern pharmacist position at a local hospital, but not for school (and at the hospital's expense since it's a requirement for employment....along with peeing into a cup and a hair clipping for illegal drug toxicology tests).

I had a titer done for varivella, which showed immunity. I also had a manitou PPD for TB.

I had to get an MMR booster, a DPT booster and my first vaccination for Hepatitis B. I get my next dose on the 15th.

Technically, I wasn't required to have the MMR because of my age. But, the nurse practitioner recommended that I get the vaccine. She said I'm going to be around sick people and I should be protected from everything.

I don't think it's for your own protection as much as for the protection of immune-compromised patients in the hospital. A hospital is already a great breeding ground for infectious disease, so I think that they are just trying to cut down the amont of possible carriers by making all employees/interns get all the immunizations. Don't you have to be born before 1952 to get out of the MMR requirement? I do agree that it's in everyone's best interest to get the shots, but it was an major inconvenience to say the least. I still have one titer to go, and a stack of paperwork to fill out.

hey..how long total does it take for you to complete the hep vaccine?? i.e. how many days in between you have to wait?

Hep B is 1st dose, then wait one month, 2nd dose then wait 5 months then 3rd dose. If you need the titer drawn you have to wait 6 weeks after the final dose.

Just got a list of the immunizations and tests from the dean's office...I guess I should have seen that coming...they're giving it to us a year before we'll need it to fulfill the time consuming HepB series, and because of "money issues" each of us will face to pay for this stuff.
