The "impressions" account was created as a way to provide an extra (though not perfect) layer of protection to users who wished to provide the opinions with the security of anonymity. The thought is, that in such a small field, being afforded more privacy when expressing what might be a controversial thought, would encourage the flow of information.

This seems perfectly reasonable philosophically though marginal in terms of the terms of service of this site. As a measure of good faith returned, I urge users here to user this account responsbily. This means

1) please dont abuse it. Feel free to give thought out ,considered opinions. Yes, even unpopular views are indeed welcome. Cheap shots at individuals that you feel brave enough to lob only when hiding behind a screenname however, are not.

2) please use your regular screen name when posting any information that is not in and of itself, a cause for concern over privacy. your personal information is still protected here and having the "personality" of the user using his screenname helps the community. Its difficult to respond to the "same user" if everyone is always posting to the impressions account. Further, if the "impressions" account is abused, it will be inactivated.

Please see the "impressions" account for what it is; a courtesy tweeking of the terms of service here so that medical students and residents (and other) can feel comfortable to post controversial or unpopular views with the security of privacy for the benefit for others who visit this site and who want honest information that can be difficult to get in radonc. Please dont use it as a bully pulpit.

I have placed the impressions account on hold. I feel that people using this site should user their individual on-line persona; you can be (as most people choose to be) anonymous with this, as much or as little as you like depending upon how much you choose reveal about yourself.

The impressions account was an exceptional option to encourage people to talk openly about, well, their impressions of places, with an extra layer of protection. This is exceptional because multiple accounts are not generally permitted and defeat the point of having individual accounts forum which, again, already are private insofar as you make them

So unfortunately because there has been widerspread use of the impressions account beyond the scope for which it was intended, I am putting ina suspension for now. It may be reopened in the future prn and with the understanding that it is exceptions only.

Im sorry to see the impressions account being used inappropriately. I will give the benefit of the doubt and chalk this up to a user forgetting s/he was signed into that account. But if there is to be continued use of the Impression account, it needs to be appropriate. Otherwise it will be closed. And that would be a shame, particularly at this time of year.

Unfortunately the impressions account is being used for posts that it really is not intended for. I would hate to have to lock this account as it provides a blanket of protect users sometimes feel they need to post their views on things like residency programs freely. This is a COURTESY- as it is, you have a screen name that you can make as public or as private as you like. The notion of a shared account actually rubs against the SDN philosophy (to say nothing potentially of TOS). So for the time being, while the impressions account is quite useful post match, my policy will be to simply delete any post from Impressions that is an inappropriate use. Its that or close the account. So please do make an effort- sign into impressions to post, well IMPRESSIONS, and into your own account for all else. thank you.
