ugh. so let me get this straight. the AADSAS app fees are the same ones that the schools require as their application fees? and then there are secondary app fees on top of that? i have 15 schools on my list with app fees totaling $950!

forgot to add - do all the primary app fees have to go out when you click 'submit'?

haha yup application fees definitely put a dent in your wallet. You forgot to add the fees you pay for your DAT scores to go out as well 😉

The app fees won't be processed until you e-submit (they don't ask for your credit card info until then anyways).

Yep...you have AADSAS fees, then individual secondary fees...then $$ to travel to interviews, book hotels, $ to make deposits at schools...money to send DAT scores...there is pretty much no getting around how expensive this process is! And yes, as far as I know, once you submit your application, they take you to the payment screen.

There are three types of fees:

AADSAS fees - charged when you submit your application
School fees - each school has a fee of a different amount that you must pay via check or by credit card
ADA fees - to send out your DAT scores to each school

= VERY EXPENSIVE, but so worth it!

ok, i think this is what i was getting a little confused over - how is the aadsas fee different from say, NYU's stated $75 application fee?

They are different in that the NYU fee goes directly to the school, the AADSAS fee must be paid as well but goes to AADSAS to pay for your application processing to that particular school.

You pay the AADSAS fee first, then you send you pay the NYU fee.

Question about individual school fees...will there be some type of alert on AADSAS from the school that asks you to send the app fee, or do we just send that out around the same time we submit for AADSAS?

AADSAS has what each particular school wants you to do and when. some want you to send it right away, some only after they contact you, some want a picture or secondary application, etc, its all listed on aadsas. i forget where exactly you click but its somewhere in the designated school section.

they're just totally separate fees. you fill out the aadsas, designate your schools, and submit payment directly to aadsas. then totally separately from that, each school requires an application fee and possibly other materials which you will mail directly to the school. last cycle i applied to 10 schools, aadsas cost was 735, supplemental cost (fees sent directly to schools) was 545.

augh. i better start making some extra room in the house because there's going to be a small herd of cows in here once i tell my parents.

has anyone had any success with their fee assistance program?

and can anyone tell me how much those separate aadsas fees are? i'm trying to get all my ducks in a row before all this application nonsense goes down.

thanks for all the help everyone!

Don't forget the interview suit, taxi or rental care fees for travel between the airport, hotel, and school, and food costs while traveling.

Look at the schools websites for their instructions on what has to be completed after you submit your AADSAS application. :luck:

I did the fee reduction program. I had to send in my tax forms and my parents' tax forms. It took a few weeks and they basically send you a reimbursement check of half of what you paid.

don't forget the initial fee that you must pay just to take the DAT and all that money spent on review books (Destroyer=$150, schaum's books 15-30 a piece or so, and then there's the optional 123098734098 kaplan review course!) :scared:

that is why the military offers people cash to do their program...b/c they know you are broke when you start dental school from all those applying fees

p.s. if you are applying to 15 schools, you also need to think about saving up for all those plane flights, hotel rooms, rental cars, etc. for interviews. boy does that add up fast!

i flied to four places to interview, and my dentist got mad at me for "wasting all that money" because he said he knew i would get into my state school. ok my state school accepts like FIVE people from my state out of a menagarie of applications. ugh there was no way i was taking a chance just applying to one school. i was like i am getting in the first year, darn it!
