Hi everyone. I'm new, so please be nice. 😀 My family and I currently reside in a large midwestern city, but the nearest schools are 4.5 or more hours away--too far for a dual commuting situation. My husband must be able to work at his current level for me to attend school and his best opportunities in large markets. As we are willing and able to move for school, I applied to six colleges in/near large cities (CCOM, PCOM, NY, NJ, AZCOM and UHS) after taking the 8/03 mcat. I am afraid now that we are screwed based on our current location!!!

Could someone please tell me if any of the D.O. schools in/near large metro areas will admit without preference to in-state or regional residency? I am committed to D.O. training and I only need one acceptance, but the admit/reject posts from you guys are scaring me. Should I submit additional applications this cycle?
Thank you so much in advance for your input.

Your best bet is AZCOM or UHS, of those listed. I am from Texas, and applied to only 6 schools (the ones that take the highest percentage out of state).

I've been accepted to AZCOM & It is a great metro area.

I was rejected from CCOM, and think they give preference for people from around there.

I know someone from Texas also, who went to UHS.

UHS has no preference for geographic location..
I am from Chicago and I was accepted

Thank you for the responses, BU and Sherman. I guess I need to focus on UHS and AZCOM then. Does anyone have an opinion about whether some other schools not already on my list might be worth adding? 🙂

It sounds to me that the list you have (CCOM, PCOM, NY, NJ, AZCOM and UHS) is good. I don't think you will have a problem gaining admittance to any of these schools. I was accepted to CCOM, UMDNJ, AZCOM, NSU-COM and offered an interview (which I declined) at UHS-COM and I was out of the region for all of the schools. Have you considered Western/COMP as that is near L.A. or NSU-COM as that is near Fort Lauderdale and Miami. I think if your application is strong you should have no problem. Even though some schools say they prefer people from the area, they always accept individuals from around the country.
