Hi Everyone,

I searched many times but have not found an answer to my question or situation. So, I thought that I should just start a new thread. Hopefully it might help some others in the same kind of situation.

I'm currently a freshman studying at George Mason University in Virginia. Planning on taking the DAT in 2017. Currently I hold a residency status for the state of Virginia. I just moved from India in January, where I attended about 4 months attending the Manipal College of Dental Sciences (#1 Dental school in India). So I am very motivated to go to a dental school here. 🙂
Knowing that Virginia only has 1 dental school, I was wondering if I could move to Texas, acquire a residency status of Texas and apply to the schools there. This is all because of the fact that the combined number of seats in dental school in Texas in around 3x the number of seats here in VCU.
Texas schools take less than 1% OOS students, and after graduating students don't face a great amount of burden while clearing out those student loans.

So, I was just wondering if I should move to Texas next year with my family, acquire the residency and apply for the schools there. Will it greatly increase my chances of being accepted (considering I can get an above average score on the DAT)?

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

Yes, if you make sure to take all of the required steps to acquire residency.
