Got accepted to both my In-state dental school and an out of state dental school. I feel very blessed and thankful to be in this position, but I'm torn which way to go.

The In state school has a pretty good reputation, as all the dentists and everyone I've talked to have good things to say... and it's about 100K for 4 years. The OOS school is very prestigious and definitely looks better on the eye-test... however it would be a solid 150K or so more than my in-state school.

Would the extra money be worth it education wise? would it put a burden on me going forward? Any thoughts are appreciated

Thanks!

Look at this carefully as if you were buying something as expensive as a house except you can't sell this house, you will pay >5X more in interest, and you will only live in it for four years.

I made the following thread and calculated the cost-of-attendance for my state school, UCSF, and Penn.

Then, make a DentalTown account and take a look at this.

Sure am not.. is the answer that obvious?

The answer is the state school. Go to the cheaper school. Go to the cheaper school. If that wasn't clear, go to the one that costs less.

Go ask 100 dentists if anyone has asked them where they went to school at? See how many say their patients care. A name really means nothing, except that you'll just pay a HELL of a lot more for your education than you need to.

Search these forums and DentalTown forums and you will find 99% of people will say go to the cheaper school.

$150,000 is a LOT of money, never underestimate how big that will grow to by the time you graduate, and the extra YEARS you will have to spend paying it off, especially if your state school is well regarded. Dental school should be used for one thing- get a degree and become a competent dentist.
