In the area

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Can I send an in the area message to schools that haven't offered me an interview.
If so, what are some good ways to say this?

Thanks

I got three interviews by doing this. Call the admissions office of the school and do the following.

1. Let them know you are an applicant
2. You are going to be in the area on (insert date)
3. You haven't been offered an interview yet, but you are hoping to get one.
4. You are a poor student who is trying to minimize his cost. And that if an interview offer is forthcomming you would love to know so that you can make the necessary arrangements.
5. You would love to have the opportunity to interview with that school as well, especially since you are in the area.

Most important: Be polite.

This shows that you have a real interest in their school, it may get your name recognized and even result in a second look at your app.

Bottom line: It may or may not help, it won't hurt.
