Think about it. In a matter of months (almost weeks NOW), we will all be eagerly refreshing our inboxes, getting palpitations every single time we see we have a new email, and getting diarrhea every time we login to our email account.

Personally, I can't wait.

(Note: I changed the title from ANTICIPATION to CELEBRATION, since we are currently in the midst of utter ridiculousness... and I like it.)

WOW.. BM every time we check inbox. It will help all the constipated medical students. It will be touch and go during the next 4 months. But hopefully worth the effort.

Wow Deferoxamine, your enthusiasm is a shining example for us all...

But few quick questions for my soon to be fellow interviewees...
1. Doesn't it seem like ERAS was a lot shorter than your school lead your to believe? At least it was for me, which shows either 1 of 2 things: I'm exceptionally mediocre as medical students go, or I've missed a lot of the application. Now it does say that everything is saved on the check list, so...
2. What specialty are you applying to?
3. What are your top (Please Let Me In!) programs?

It's not even September 1st and I'm already annoyed by the process...hurry up and wait...can we just get it over with?!

When you're applying to residency and you poop when you have to pee...diarrhea! diarrhea!

When you're checking your email and your external sphrinter begins to fail...diarrhea! diarrhea!

Residency apps is like rolling a multi sided die. The number of apps equal the number of faces, interviews represent the faces that are weighted. Any face will win.
Medical school applications were more stressful, for me at least.

But, I will keep the TP for my bunghole ready.

I AM CORNHOLIO!

Hi Guys/gals,

So I certified my application and have a list of programs that I am interested in. Can I actually go ahead and apply for programs? It is not letting me actually apply for any. Is that correct? Is it going to open Sept 1st where I can just select the programs and click apply?

PS. No INBOX (1).

Got my first one today! A DO emergency medicine program. Pretty pumped.

The only INBOX I got was ERAS remind me how they are taking money I don't have.

Ha yes I totally had that thought. "This is it? I really can be boiled down to about 3 pages total?" Glad I am not the one who had that impression. That said--whatever, we were all busy being med students. Who had time for 20 different activities?!

2) internal medicine
3) Who knows? I just want to find somewhere where the people are nice and supportive and not snarky and mean. I have worked with very smart people of both kinds, and I like the nice ones better. 👍

I had the same thought about eras... My school had all these prep sessions on it, and told us we should have our CV completed and proofed BEFORE eras opens, but then no one told you that you don't actually uplaod a CV you just type into spaces!! What a waste of time... But after all that craziness we've been through we are finally at the end. Good luck everyone!

That is so amazing, I can't even tell you!

True that. My wife and I spent hours deliberating how to make the most attractive, professional looking CV that best represented me as an applicant. At least I have a base document for some other time when I need a CV? I guess I used it for my letter writers, but still... my school made it sound like we'd be uploading word files into ERAS or something

I spent weeks making mine pretty too.

I still plan on using my pretty CV when I bring documents to interviews. A lot of stuff I've read says you should bring copies of your CV to interviews and I just don't like the idea of just printing out that hideous thing that ERAS creates.

Finally submitted and it's out of my hands. I never thought it'd be so cathartic to shell out a couple hundred dollars.

1. Doesn't it seem like ERAS was a lot shorter than your school lead your to believe?
Totally. Feel like I was doing it wrong as well. It was like AMCAS all over minus a lot of the fluff. I felt like this was going to be wayyy more time intensive than it was. Once my PS was done it was smooth sailing.
2. What specialty are you applying to? Otolaryngology
3. What are your top (Please Let Me In!) programs? Ask me after I get interview invites. There's a part of me that is still convinced I will get 5 interviews, not match, than am destined to scramble :|

ZagDoc, I am there with you. Also applied to OTO, and to an ungodly number of programs.

Hope to see you out there,
G

Bah, I'm already getting general info emails!! And a friend applying to peds already has two interview invites!! I am not kidding.

1. Yes, ERAS was much easier than AMCAS!
2. Peds
3. Um, all of them?!

I got one already too! But it's from a small program that knows me, so I shouldn't be too exited---but I am!!!!!😀

I received 1 (I cheated, I was rotating there!) like the next day after apps were due, so I'm done with it.

Other than that, none so far 😴

Just 1 general email telling me thank you for considering us, and upon review, we will decide if you are to be considered for a personal interview or not. I guess it's better than not receiving anything at all ... :/

GODDAMNIT! My 3rd LOR still hasn't been uploaded. Craziness - spoke with the attending, he accidently forgot to sign it when he mailed it out, so the 2nd go around he signed it and mailed it out (why dont you just FAX IT!??!!?!) ... I guess it'll be uploaded on Tuesday (I hope) :/

I got 1 Inbox today on my iphone. It said I had a message on ERAS. So I get home and check it... and as I am sure you guys and gals all got the same message. Stupid ERAS sending us a practice message.

Actually I just got an email from a program saying they received my application and will be looking it over.

Is it okay to switch interview dates if done so early on? Or, is this frowned upon?

thanks!

"they" (one of two programs with my home university who I have interviews with) told me not to worry and that if I needed to reschedule, I could do that later on without any troubles.

Something tells me that these programs are very used to the stresses, challenges, and cluster-B personality traits of physicians.

Good luck all!

As long as interview dates aren't full this isn't frowned upon from what I've heard. I will say this though - make sure when you're scheduling your interviews to take note of ALL the dates that a program is interviewing on so that if you decide later than you need to swap due to scheduling conflicts you can look at your list of dates and see which programs you can potentially shuffle around.

I wish I had that problem

Congrats everyone on your invites thus far.

Coup, don't worry, the wait is the worst part, but it will pass.

YES!!

Less than 1 week after submitting ERAS, I've gotten my first two real interview invites today - and they're 2 of my top choices!

I love Inbox (1 NEW!) Season.

I am going to start a thread of the "1 new inbox not in IM, Peds, FM, Path, Psych, or OB" anticipation...

See you at Haloween....

Bumping thread in anticipation of a new business week ahead of us, with many potential Inbox (1 NEW!) moments for us.

Looking forward to Monday...

One new! Total seven interviews. I got an interview invite on a Sunday!

Congrats! One of my friends also got 2 interview invites this weekend. It makes me happy that we might get some good news on the weekends as well 😀

I got interview 9/10 at 6:53 PM on Friday....really? And this program is from my exact same time zone so...😎 Today I get to call that program, and heck, I'm going to call the last program too just so I can get all this damn travel in order.

Here's to another day of relentlessly checking my email in clinic!

cheers everyone!

You guys are lucky. I only have three invites so far, and I applied to 82 programs! I've gotten three rejections as well. I was really hoping to get about 6 or 7 interviews in total. I am an IMG so it is that much more difficult for me to match into a program (I applied for IM). Oh well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that a few more invites come my way.
Congrats to all those who have gotten interview offers so far and good luck on your interviews!

I think my favorite part of this process so far is that some places are offering to pay for all or part of my hotel.

Didn't expect that! I'm all for saving money.

Thanks Salsa Girl! Coupons=good!

So far I have 10/15 invites for the programs that I have applied to.
I'm starting to wonder where I'm going to put the other interviews!!
I know, you all feel so sorry for me. 🙄

7/11 interview invites for IM, one invite declined. four in one week! i'm calling it interview week!

I applied to 41 programs a week ago. Haven't heard anything yet. I'm hoping to move from the HEARING CRICKETS CLUB to the INTERVIEW INVITE CLUB in the next 2 weeks....

Finally some movement this week. One invite, one reject. So, heard from 2 of 46 programs. Crickets club, you are not alone.
