Incoming Stats for Temple's Class of 2009

Just had a personal meeting with one of the adcoms at Temple and they revealed the stats for the incoming class of 2009 to me (NOTE: these are unofficial):

Average Science GPA: 3.3
Average DAT AA: 19.22
# of girls: 52 (the first question I asked 😛 )
# of boys: 72 🙁

Damn, thats a big diff from last year when I applied!!! 😱

I cant imagine what this next cycle is gonna be like!!! With all the press of dentistry being such an amazing profession (i.e. Wall Street Journal) and how all the pre-meds are now switching to dents, I can imagine that this next cycle is gonna be insane!!! Get those grades up guys and gals!!! Dentistry is not becoming a joke to get accepted into anymore!!

yea i know, it's getting more competitive every year.

Good for the public in that the cream of crop now want to become dentists.

But bad for us slackers in that what I thought was good enough two years ago, is no longer even competitive.

Pre-meds are switching to dent because now they know how much money is in the profession, plus they don't want to deal with HMO's.

Engineers and Comp sci majors, are switching because dentistry offers more job security.

I'm just glad I'm applying this year, because next year will be even tougher.

although the male to female ratio isn't ideal, it's better than what i expected!

Just curious, but what were the stats for your incoming class last year?

I dont remember but it was in the league of 3.2 GPA with a 18 DAT

Dr. Babvibes, I am wonder do Temple make student purchase equipment through school or student can buy their equipment themself elsewhere. I think the school may charge too much for the equipment and I found it a lot cheaper on ebay. can you recomend any brand for the high speed and low speed handpiece that can work with the equipment in school, and any thing else you feel that studetn must buy extra. On the tooth collection, do you think we going to need it in the first year or second year and what type of teeth will be needed the most like Madibular and Maxilllary molar.... ect. thank ahead
